أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا أَبُو بِشْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْحٍ شَبِيبٍ الشَّامِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ يُوَاعِدُ امْرَأَةً فِي مَكَانٍ يَأْتِيهَا فِيهِ فَعَلِمَتْ بِذَلِكَ امْرَأَةٌ، فَجَلَسَتْ فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ، فَجَاءَ الرَّجُلُ فَأَصَابَ مِنْهَا وَهُوَ يَظُنُّ أَنَّهَا جَارِيَتُهُ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ نَظَرَ فَإِذَا هِيَ لَيْسَ بِجَارِيَتِهِ، فَأَتَى عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَأَرْسَلَ عُمَرُ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: «اضْرِبِ الرَّجُلَ الْحَدَّ فِي السِّرِّ، وَاضْرِبِ الْحَدَّ الْمَرْأَةَ فِي الْعَلَانِيَةِ»
A man came to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) who had mistakenly had intercourse with a woman who was not lawful for him. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Give the man the prescribed punishment in secret, and the woman the prescribed punishment in public."
