أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The child belongs to the (owner of the) bed, and for the adulterer is the stone."
Brief Explanation
Benefit: This hadith is definitive in its authenticity (qat‘i al-thubut), definitive in its indication (qat‘i al-dalalah), and is included among the foundational principles of the Shari‘ah. All jurists are unanimous upon this. From this, the rejection of lineage established through adultery (zina) and the importance of marriage (nikah) are proven. The Shari‘ah safeguards the family system and rejects all consequences resulting from adultery (zina).
