Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that two brothers married two sisters, and (by mistake) each was sent to the other's wife. So, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "They will be separated from each other, and each woman will be given her dowry, and neither man should approach his wife until the waiting period ('iddah) of her sister is completed, and both husbands will take back the dowry from the person who deceived them."

Brief Explanation
Benefit: In Hadith 2119, there is a juristic narration (fiqhi athar) concerning marital rulings, the prohibition of affinity (mahram relationships through marriage), and the conditions of marriage. In it, an important fatwa of Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu is mentioned, which he gave in a case where two brothers married two sisters, and there was an error in the marriage contract. This narration is highly insightful in the chapters of the marital system, waiting period (‘iddah), the prohibition of combining two sisters in marriage, and the legal consequences of deception (ghurur). This narration is "hasan al-isnad" (of good chain of transmission), and is a practical fatwa based on the juristic reasoning (ijtihad) of Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu. In it:
- The correction of marital error, - The protection of women's rights (dower [mahr] and waiting period [‘iddah]), - The observance of the prohibition of affinity (mahram relationships through marriage), - And the ruling of financial compensation from the deceiver,
— all are explained in a most juristic and just manner.
