Hadith 3241

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ أنا الْعَوَّامُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ أَنَّ عُمَرَ مَرَّ عَلَى غِلْمَانٍ عَلَى بِئْرٍ يُدْلُونَ فِيهَا وَمَعَهُمْ أَمَةٌ تُدَلِّي مَعَهُمْ، فَقَالَ: «هَا، لَعَلَّ صَاحِبَ هَذِهِ أَنْ يَكُونَ يُصِيبَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُهَا فِيمَا تَرَوْنَ، أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَوْ جَاءَتْ بِوَلَدٍ أَلْحَقْنَاهُ بِهِ»
When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw that slaves were drawing water from a well and a slave-girl was also with them, he said: "Perhaps the owner of this slave-girl has relations with her and then puts her to work with the people like this. If she bears a child, we will attribute the child to her owner."
