بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي أُمَّهَاتِ الْأَوْلَادِChapter on what is reported regarding umm al-walad (mother of a child)
Hadith 3231

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ لَقِيَهُ رَكْبٌ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، فَسَأَلُوهُ يَعْنِي عَنْ أُمَّهَاتِ الْأَوْلَادِ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: " تَعْرِفُونَ عُمَرَ: فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «فَإِنَّهُ قَضَى فِيهِنَّ أَنْ يَسْتَمْتِعَ بِهِنَّ سَادَتُهُنَّ مَا بَدَا لَهُمْ، فَإِذَا هَلَكَ السَّيِّدُ فَلَا بَيْعَ فِيهَا، وَلَا مِيرَاثَ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave this verdict regarding ummahat al-awlad: as long as the owner is alive, he may benefit from them, but when the owner dies, they can neither be sold nor inherited."
