Hadith 3109

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، فِي رَجُلٍ قَالَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ: وَاللَّهِ لَا أُكَلِّمُكِ فَمَضَتْ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَهَا، قَالَ: «إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِيلَاءً، وَإِنَّمَا كَانَ الْإِيلَاءُ فِي الْجِمَاعِ»
It is narrated from Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) that if a person swears an oath that he will not speak to someone, and four months pass, then I fear that this will become *ila’* (an oath of abstention), but the real *ila’* is in sexual intercourse.
