بَابُ مَا يَقَعُ لَهُ إِيلَاءُ الْيَمِينِChapter on when the oath of abstinence takes effect
Hadith 3102

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: «يَهْدِمُ الطَّلَاقُ الْإِيلَاءَ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا كَفَرَسَيْ رِهَانٍ، فَأَيُّهُمَا سَبَقَ أُخِذَ بِهِ، وَإِنْ وَقَفَا جَمِيعًا أُخِذَ بِهِمَا»
It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that divorce ends ila, but both are like two horses in a race; whichever reaches first will be acted upon, and if both occur together, then both will be considered valid.
