بَابُ الرَّجُلِ يَجْعَلُ أَمْرَ امْرَأَتِهِ بِيَدِهَاChapter on a man giving his wife the right to decide
Hadith 2817

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، قَالَتْ لِزَوْجِهَا: لَوْ أَنَّ الَّذِيَ بِيَدِكَ مِنْ أَمْرِي بِيَدِي لَفَارَقْتُكَ قَالَ لَهَا: فَأَمْرُكِ بِيَدِكِ قَالَتْ: أَنْتَ طَالِقٌ ثَلَاثًا، فَرُفِعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَغَضِبَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، وَقَالَ: «تَعْمِدُونَ إِلَى أَمْرٍ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ فُتَجْعَلُونَهُ بِأَيْدِيهِنَّ»، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «وَاحِدَةٌ وَأَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِرَجْعَتِهَا»
It is narrated that a woman said to her husband: "If the matter were in my hands, I would separate from you." The husband said: "The matter is in your hands." The woman said: "You are thrice divorced." This matter reached Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. He became angry and said: "You people hand over the authority given by Allah into the hands of women." Then he said: "It is one divorce, and the husband has the right to take her back."
