بَابُ الرَّجُلِ يَجْعَلُ أَمْرَ امْرَأَتِهِ بِيَدِهَاChapter on a man giving his wife the right to decide
Hadith 2809

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: «إِذَا خَيَّرَ الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَاخْتَارَتْ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَهِيَ ثَلَاثٌ، وَإِذَا خَيَّرَهَا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَاخْتَارَتْ ثَلَاثًا فَوَاحِدَةٌ» .
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "When a man gives his wife the right of choice three times and the wife chooses once, then three divorces will take place, and if he gives the right of choice once and she says three, then only one divorce will occur."
