قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ}His saying, Exalted is He: {And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the night.}
Hadith 278

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: { حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ } قَالَ: إِذَا تَسَحَّرَ الرَّجُلُ وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّ عَلَيْهِ لَيْلًا وَقَدْ كَانَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ، لِأَنَّ اللهَ يَقُولُ: { وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ } وَإِذَا أَكَلَ وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ قَدْ غَابَتْ وَلَمْ تَغِبْ فَلْيَقْضِهِ، لِأَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ: { ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ } .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says regarding the verse of Allah, the Exalted: ﴿حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ﴾: When a person eats suhoor and thinks that it is still night while in fact the time of Fajr has passed, he should complete his fast, because Allah, the Exalted, has said: ﴿وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ﴾. And if he eats thinking that the sun has set, but in reality the sun has not set, then he should make up his fast, because Allah, the Exalted, has said: ﴿ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ﴾.
