Hadith 2541

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا، فَسُئِلَ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، فَقَالَ: لَا تَبْرَحُ حَتَّى تَنْقَضِيَ عِدَّتُهَا. وَسُئِلَ سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَأَتَوْا سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: «لِتَمْكُثْ حَتَّى تَنْقَضِيَ الْعِدَّةُ، فَإِنِّي أَرْجُو إِنْ هِيَ فَعَلَتْ أَنْ تَزَوَّجَ لَيْلَةَ تَحِلُّ. فَفَعَلَتْ، فَتَزَوَّجَتْ لَيْلَةَ حَلَّتْ»
When the husband of a woman from Madinah passed away, Qasim bin Muhammad, Salim bin Abdullah, and Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on them) said: She should remain in her house until her waiting period is completed, and if she does so, she may marry on the very night she becomes lawful.
