بَابُ الْأَمَةِ تُطَلَّقُ فَتُعْتَقُ فِي الْعِدَّةِChapter: A slave woman is divorced and freed during her waiting period
Hadith 2457

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا عَتَّابٌ، قَالَ: نا خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: «كُلُّ امْرَأَةٍ تَعْتَدُّ بِالْأَقْرَاءِ ثُمَّ تَرْتَفِعُ حَيْضَتُهَا فَإِنَّهَا تَسْتَأْنِفُ الشُّهُورَ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ تَعْتَدُّ بِالشُّهُورِ ثُمَّ حَاضَتْ فَإِنَّهَا تَسْتَأْنِفُ الْحِيَضَ»
Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says: If a woman is observing her waiting period ('iddah) through menstruation and her menstruation stops, then she should resume her 'iddah by counting months. And if a woman is observing her 'iddah by counting months and menstruation starts, then she should resume her 'iddah through menstruation.
