حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا أَبُو حُرَّةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي الرَّجُلِ يُطَلِّقُ امْرَأَتَهُ ثَلَاثًا بِكَلِمَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، فَقَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: " لَوْ حَمَلْنَاهُمْ عَلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَا، بَلْ نُلْزِمُهُمْ مَا أَلْزَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ "
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when someone gave three divorces in a single utterance, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If we act according to the Book of Allah, that is better, but we will obligate them to what they have obligated upon themselves."
