Hadith 2204

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: «لَا طَلَاقَ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ نِكَاحٍ، وَلَا عِتْقَ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ مِلْكٍ»
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Divorce is valid only after marriage, and emancipation is valid only after ownership."
