بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَتَزَوَّجُ الْمَرْأَةَ فَتَمُوتُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بِهَا أَوْ يُطَلِّقَهَا، هَلْ يَصْلُحُ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ أُمَّهَاChapter: What is reported regarding a man marrying a woman, then she dies before consummation or he divorces her—can he marry her mother?
Hadith 2114

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا دَاوُدُ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ، عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ} [النساء: 23]، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: " هِيَ مُبْهَمَةٌ، فَأَرْسِلُوا مَا أَرْسَلَ اللَّهُ، وَاتَّبِعُوا مَا بَيَّنَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ. قَالَ: رَخَّصَ فِي الرَّبِيبَةِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ دَخَلَ بِأُمِّهَا، وَكَرِهَ الْأُمَّ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said in the explanation of the verse «وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَائِكُمْ» [النساء: 23]: "A stepdaughter (the daughter of one's wife) is lawful if the mother has not been consummated with, and the mother is forbidden in every case."
