Hadith 1929

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: " كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَتْ أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى زَوْجِهَا: أَنْ بِتْ عِنْدَنَا لِكَيِ أَسْتَوْجِبَ الصَّدَاقَ، وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا شَيْئًا "
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "A woman of Madinah would call her husband after marriage so that he would spend the night with her and the dowry would become obligatory, even though nothing had yet been given."
