حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ: أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: «يُفَرَّقُ بَيْنَهُمَا، وَيَتَزَّوَجُهَا الْآخَرُ، ثُمَّ تُكْمِلُ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عِدَّتِهَا مِنَ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ تَعْتَدُّ مِنَ الْآخَرِ» وَقَالَ الشَّعْبِيُّ «تَعْتَدُّ مِنْ هَذَا الْآخَرِ ثُمَّ تَعْتَدُّ بَقِيَّةَ عِدَّتِهَا مِنَ الْأَوَّلِ»
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Separation should be made between the two, and if the woman marries another man, she should complete the waiting period ('iddah) of the first, then begin the 'iddah of the second." Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "She should first observe the 'iddah of the second man, then complete the remaining period of the first 'iddah."
