Hadith 1802

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ قَالَ: " مَكْتُوبٌ فِي بَعْضِ الْكُتُبِ: مَهْرُ الْبِكْرِ أَرْبَعُونَ دِرْهَمًا، وَمَهْرُ الثَّيِّبِ عِشْرُونَ دِرْهَمًا، لِكَيْ لَا يَقُولَ أَحَدٌ: لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَنْكِحُ فَيَزْنِيَ "
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Aslam (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "It is written in some books that the dowry of a virgin is forty dirhams and the dowry of a widow is twenty dirhams, so that no one may say that I do not get anything for marriage and then commit adultery."
