بَابُ الرَّجُلِ يَتَزَوَّجُ الْمَرْأَةَ عَلَى حُكْمِهَاChapter: A man marries a woman according to her terms

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ: أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ حُرَيْثٍ خَطَبَ إِلَى عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ابْنَتَهُ فَأَبَى أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ إِلَّا عَلَى حُكْمِهِ، وَكَرِهَ عَمْرٌو، وَخَافَ أَنْ يَحْكُمَ عَلَيْهِ دَارَهُ أَوْ أَمْرًا يَقْتَطِعُهُ، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ بَدَا لَهُ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ عَلَى حُكْمِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَدِيٌّ: «لَا أَحْكُمُ حُكْمًا يُسَائِلُنِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَحَكَمَ عَشَرَةَ أُوقِيَّةٍ أَرْبَعَمِائَةٍ وَثَمَانِينَ دِرْهَمًا»
It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Amr bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed marriage to the daughter of Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him). Adi said: "I will marry her off according to my decision." Amr disliked that he might set a condition regarding his house or something else. Later, Amr expressed his willingness for the marriage. Adi said: "I will not make any such decision about which Allah, the Exalted, will question me." Thus, he decided on ten uqiyah, that is, four hundred and eighty dirhams.
