بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصَّدَاقِChapter: What is reported regarding the dowry (mahr)
Hadith 1782

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: «كَانُوا يَكْرَهُونَ أَنْ يَكُونَ مُهُورُ الْحَرَائِرِ كَأُجُورِ الْبَغَايَا، أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ الرَّجُلُ بِالدِّرْهَمِ وَالدِّرْهَمَيْنِ، كَانَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ عِشْرُونَ دِرْهَمًا»
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "People used to dislike that the dowry of free women should be like the wage of immoral women, that is, to marry for one or two dirhams. They preferred that the dowry be twenty dirhams."
