بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصَّدَاقِChapter: What is reported regarding the dowry (mahr)

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ، أَنَّ أَبَا حَدْرَدٍ الْأَسْلَمِيَّ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَعِينُهُ فِي صَدَاقِهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «كَمْ سُقْتَ إِلَيْهَا؟» قَالَ: مِائَتَيْ دِرْهَمٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَغْتَرِفُونَهُ مِنْ مُلْكِ بُطْحَانَ زِدْتُمْ»
Sayyiduna Abu Hadard Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) married a woman, then came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and sought help regarding the dowry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How much dowry have you fixed?" He said: "Two hundred dirhams." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you had taken it from the authority of Bathan, even then you would have increased it."
