بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصَّدَاقِChapter: What is reported regarding the dowry (mahr)
Hadith 1778

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: أنا مَنْ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: «نَكَحْتُ ابْنَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا لَنَا فِرَاشٌ نَنَامُ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جِلْدُ شَاةٍ نَنَامُ عَلَيْهِ بِاللَّيْلِ، وَنَعْلِفُ عَلَيْهِ النَّاضِحَ بِالنَّهَارِ»
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said on the pulpit: "I married the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we had no bed on which we could sleep except a goatskin, on which we would sleep at night and during the day we would put fodder for the camel on it."
