حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: " خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنْهَاكُمْ، عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الصَّدَاقِ، حَتَّى عُرِضَتْ لِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَآتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ قِنْطَارًا فَلَا تَأْخُذُوا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا} [النساء: 20]
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I set out intending to prohibit you from excessive dowries, until the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, came before me: «وَآتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ قِنْطَارًا فَلَا تَأْخُذُوا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا» [النساء: 20]."
