Hadith 1758

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً أَرَادَتِ التَّزْوِيجَ، فَمَنَعَهَا وَلِيُّهَا، فَاسْتَعْدَتْ شُرَيْحًا، فَقَالَ: «ايْذَنْ فِي نِكَاحِهَا» . فَكَأَنَّهُ تَلَكَّأَ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ شُرَيْحٌ: ايْذَنْ قَبْلَ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ لَكَ إِذْنٌ. فَزَوَّجَهَا شُرَيْحٌ "
A woman came to Hazrat Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) for marriage and her guardian refused. Shurayh said: "The guardian should permit the marriage." And when the guardian hesitated, he himself conducted the marriage.
