Hadith 1756

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ عَائِذِ اللَّهِ يُقَالُ لَهَا سَلَمَةُ بِنْتُ عُبَيْدٍ زَوَّجَتْهَا أُمُّهَا وَأَهْلُهَا، فَرُفِعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: «أَلَيْسَ قَدْ دَخَلَ بِهَا؟ فَالنِّكَاحُ جَائِزٌ»
A case of a woman was brought before Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who had been married off by her mother and relatives. He inquired whether the husband had consummated the marriage. When he was informed that he had, he said: "The marriage is valid."
