Hadith 1616

سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ دَبَّرَ غُلَامًا لَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُ، فَبَاعَهُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَاشْتَرَاهُ ابْنُ النَّحَّامِ. قَالَ جَابِرٌ: عَبْدًا قِبْطِيًّا مَاتَ عَامَ أَوَّلَ فِي إِمَارَةِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ.
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: An Ansari made his slave a mudabbar (i.e., he willed that the slave would be freed after his death), and he had no other wealth besides him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sold that slave, and Ibn Nuham bought him. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He was a Coptic slave who died during the era of Ibn Zubair.
