Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying in the Farewell Pilgrimage sermon: “Listen! Allah has given every rightful person his due right, therefore there is no bequest for an heir. The child belongs to the (owner of the) bed, and for the adulterer is the stone, and their reckoning is upon Allah. Whoever attributes himself to someone other than his father, or affiliates himself to other than his own clients, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people; neither any voluntary nor obligatory act will be accepted from him. A woman should not spend anything from her house without her husband’s permission.” It was asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Even in food?” He said: “That is the best part of our wealth.” Then he said: “A loan must be repaid, a borrowed item must be returned, a debt must be settled, and the guarantor is responsible.”
