بَابٌ: هَلْ يُوصِي الرَّجُلُ مِنْ مَالِهِ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنَ الثُّلُثِChapter: Can a man bequeath more than a third of his wealth?
Hadith 1514

سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: " كَانَ الْخُمُسُ فِي الْوَصِيَّةِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الرُّبُعِ، وَالرُّبُعُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الثُّلُثِ، وَكَانَ يُقَالُ: هُمَا الْمُرَّيَانِ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ: الْإِمْسَاكُ فِي الْحَيَاةِ، وَالتَّبْذِيرُ فِي الْمَمَاتِ "
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "A bequest of one-fifth was better than one-fourth, and one-fourth was better than one-third, and it was said that miserliness in life and extravagance at death—both are bad things."
