Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin Khuwailid Al-Anzi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I went out with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), until he reached the gate of the market, faced it, and then said: "O Allah! I ask You for its good and the good of its people, and I seek refuge with You from its evil and the evil of its people." Then he reached the steps of the mosque and heard a man swearing by a surah of the Qur'an. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Hanzalah! Do you think this man can offer expiation for his oath? Every verse has an expiation," or he said: "This is an oath."
