Hadith 1211

A case was brought before Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding a man who had left behind parents, two daughters, and a wife. He said to the wife: "I see that your one-eighth share has become one-ninth."

Brief Explanation
Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i (Amr ibn Abdullah al-Hamdani), a trustworthy Tabi'i and prolific narrator, is established to have heard directly (sama‘) from Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu, and this has been explicitly mentioned by numerous hadith scholars and researchers.

Yahya ibn Ma'in said: He heard from Ali, and he was young in his time. (Siyar A‘lam al-Nubala’, ed. al-Risalah, 6/311)

Ibn Hajar said: He heard from Ali... and Ibn Sa‘d mentioned him in the third generation (tabiqa). (Tahdhib al-Tahdhib, Ibn Hajar, 8/66)
