Hadith 1192

سَعِيدٌ قَالَ: نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، قَالَ: «لِلْأُمِّ ثُلُثُ مَا بَقِيَ»
It is narrated from Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The mother has one third of the remaining estate."
Brief Explanation
In terms of chain of narration, it is mursal and weak (due to the weakness of Ibn Abi Layla and the fact of it being mursal), because al-Sha'bi did not narrate directly from Sayyiduna Ali, rather these are known as the mursal narrations of al-Sha'bi.
