Hadith 1184

نا هُشَيْمٌ، قَالَ: أنا الأَعْمَشُ، قَالَ: نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: إِنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ إِذَا أَخَذَ بِنَا طَرِيقًا فَسَلَكْنَاهُ وَجَدْنَاهُ سَهْلا، وَإِنَّهُ أُتِيَ فِي امْرَأَةٍ وَأَبَوَيْنِ، " فَجَعَلَهُمَا مِنْ أَرْبَعَةِ أَسْهُمٍ، لِلْمَرْأَةِ الرُّبُعُ، وَلِلأُمِّ ثُلُثُ مَا بَقِيَ، وَلِلأَبِ مَا بَقِيَ، وَهُوَ سَهْمَانِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) chose a way for us, we would follow it and it would seem easy to us. And when a case regarding a woman and her parents (concerning inheritance division) was presented to him, he divided the inheritance into four parts: one fourth for the woman, one third of the remaining wealth for the mother, and whatever remained would be for the father, that is, two parts for the father."
