نا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَ: أنا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِذَا سَلَكَ بِنَا طَرِيقًا فَاتَّبَعْنَاهُ وَجَدْنَاهُ سَهْلا، وَإِنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ وَأَبَوَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: " لِلْمَرْأَةِ الرُّبُعُ، وَلِلأُمِّ ثُلُثُ مَا بَقِيَ، وَمَا بَقِيَ فَلِلأَبِ "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) would choose a path for us, we would follow behind him and that path would seem easy to us. And when he was asked about a woman and her parents (regarding inheritance), he said: The woman gets one-fourth, the mother gets one-third of the remaining wealth, and whatever remains after that will be for the father."
