Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Be aware that wine is made from grapes, raisins, dates, wheat, and barley."

Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Wine is made from wheat, wine is made from barley, wine is made from raisins, wine is made from dates, and wine is made from honey, and I forbid you from every intoxicating thing.”

Abdullah bin Abu Huzail narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah swore an oath and stated that when the command regarding the prohibition of alcohol was revealed, by the order of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), the vessels used for making alcohol were broken, and the dates and raisins (which were used for making alcohol) were destroyed.

Amr ibn Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather, reports that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, even a small amount of it is forbidden."

Sayyiduna Khawat bin Jubayr Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, its small quantity is also forbidden."

Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Every intoxicating thing is forbidden, and whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, its small amount is also forbidden."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in a large amount, even a small amount of it is forbidden."

The same narration is transmitted with another chain, however, in it are the words: "Even a single sip of it is forbidden."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever causes intoxication in a large amount, even a handful of it is forbidden."

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in a large amount, even a single sip of it is forbidden."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever causes intoxication in a large amount, even a small amount of it is forbidden."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever causes intoxication in a large amount, even a single sip of it is forbidden."

Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, even a single sip of it is forbidden. This narration is mawquf.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever causes intoxication in a large amount, even a single sip of it is forbidden."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: Wine and every intoxicating drink have been declared unlawful. This narration is also transmitted with some other chains, however, there is some difference in them. It has been reported from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Every intoxicating thing is unlawful." While some narrators have transmitted these words: "Whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, its small amount is also unlawful." Some narrators have also transmitted the legal verdict (fatwa) of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding intoxicating substances (which is as follows).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Whatever causes intoxication in large amounts, even a small amount of it is forbidden.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: That which intoxicates in large amounts, even a small amount of it is forbidden.

A man named Ja'far, who was from the descendants of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates from a person of his family that he asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about nabidh (a drink). Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: O my son! Allah Almighty did not declare khamr (intoxicant) unlawful because of its name, but He declared it unlawful because of its effect. So, every drink whose effect is like that of khamr, it will be unlawful just as khamr is unlawful.

Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather: Some people came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We prepare nabidh and drink it morning and evening. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You may drink it, but (remember) every intoxicating thing is forbidden." They said: O Messenger of Allah! We break (the strength of) its intoxication with water. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in large amounts, its small amount is also forbidden."

Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather, that some people came to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We prepare nabidh and drink it with food. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You may drink it, but avoid every intoxicating thing." They repeated their statement, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah, the Exalted, has forbidden you even a small amount of that thing, the large amount of which causes intoxication."

Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates: My father and I presented ourselves before Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). He served us dinner, then he gave us a drink. Then we left there in the darkness and could not find our way, so he gave us a flame of fire to accompany us, and thus we departed from there.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I mentioned some vessels in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so a Bedouin said: There is no harm in the vessels. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Avoid every intoxicating thing and do not become intoxicated."

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said to the delegation of the tribe of Abdul Qais: "You people (should not drink) from muqeer, muqeer, dubba’, hantam, mizadah (all these are different vessels used for preparing intoxicants); do not drink anything from them, rather drink from a waterskin, and drink that which is not intoxicating. If you fear it may become strong (intoxicating), then add water to it."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a person goes to his Muslim brother and he offers him food, then the man should eat the food and not make any requests from him. If he offers him a drink, then he should drink it and not make any further requests from him. And if he has any concern about that drink, then he should add water to it and break his fast with it."

Sayyiduna Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "You people may drink (ordinary drinks) in Muzaffat (a specific type of vessel), but do not drink intoxicating beverages." In another narration, these words are mentioned: "Do not drink intoxicating beverages."

Ibn Buraidah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I had forbidden you from using specific vessels, so now drink from whichever vessel you wish, but do not drink intoxicating things." In another narration, these words are mentioned: "Do not drink intoxicating things."

Ibn Buraidah narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Previously, I forbade you from drinking in specific vessels, but now drink from whichever vessel you wish, but do not drink anything intoxicating."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once we camped with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the valley of Batha (after this, the narrator has transmitted the entire hadith, which contains these words): "I had forbidden you from visiting graves, now you may visit them, for they remind you of your Hereafter. I had forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days, now you may eat it and store it as well. And I had forbidden you from using certain vessels, but vessels do not make anything unlawful, so drink from them, but do not drink intoxicating things."

Zaid bin Aslam narrates that I used to prepare nabidh for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) in the morning, which he would drink in the evening, and I used to prepare nabidh in the evening, which he would drink in the morning, but it was not allowed to ferment.

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I drink this strong nabidh which digests the camel meat present in our stomachs.

Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that Nabidh was prepared for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). On that occasion, when he was supposed to come but arrived late, Nabidh was presented to him which had become strong. So he called for a bowl, poured it into it, and then added water to it, thus reducing its intensity.

Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the people of the Thaqif tribe brought nabidh to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) found that it had become strong, so he called for water and mixed it into it two or three times.

Amr bin Maymun narrates that I performed Hajj twice with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard him say: We drink nabidh so that the meat present in our stomachs does not harm us (i.e., so that it is properly digested).

The narrator named Saeed reports that once a Bedouin drank nabidh from the vessel of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he became intoxicated, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) carried out the prescribed punishment on him.

Uthman bin Abu al-As narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by the vessel of a man from the tribe of Thaqif and said: Bring me this nabidh. It was brought to him, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took it and found it to be strong. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever finds sharpness in this nabidh should reduce its intensity with water.

Utbah bin Farqad narrates that once I brought a tray of sweets to the service of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and I placed it before him. He opened one of them and asked: "O Utbah! Do all Muslims get this thing?" I replied: "No! This thing is only available to the rich people." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Take it away, I have no need for it." The narrator states: During this time, while I was present, he ordered food to be brought, and thick meat and hard bread were brought for him. I intended to eat that meat, thinking it was hump meat, but it was neck meat, so I kept chewing it in my mouth. When he became inattentive to me, I placed that meat between myself and the dining cloth. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered for nabidh (a drink) to be brought, which was about to turn into vinegar. He mixed a little water in it, then left it for a while, then he gave me some to drink and drank some himself. Then he said: "O Utbah! Every day we cook camel meat, and the good meat from the haunch we serve to guests or common Muslims, and the neck meat, which does not become tender, we eat ourselves, as you have just seen. After that, we drink this nabidh so that the meat is digested in our stomachs."

Abdullah bin Mubarak narrates that Abdullah bin Umar Amri asked Imam Abu Hanifa (may Allah have mercy on him) about a drink, so he informed him that people have narrated to us this hadith from your father, that he said: If you have doubt about this, then break its strength with water. So Abdullah bin Umar Amri said to him: When you are certain about this matter, then do not waver in it.

It is narrated about Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, that he administered the full punishment of lashes to a person as a hadd because the smell of alcohol was found from his mouth.
