Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates from his father (Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, may Allah have mercy on him) the statement of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, performed three Hajj; two Hajj before migrating, and one Hajj in which he also performed 'Umrah (that is, the Farewell Hajj).

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, if I had said yes, it would have become obligatory." Then Allah revealed this verse: "O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble." In another narration, these words are mentioned: The people asked: Every year? Yahya bin Ya’mar narrates: I said to Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): “O Abu Abdur Rahman! Some people say that there is no reality to destiny (qadar).” Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: “Is any one of them present among us?” I replied: “No!” Then Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: “If you meet them, convey my message to them that Abdullah bin Umar disassociates himself from you before Allah, and you have nothing to do with him.” (Then Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, narrated this hadith:) I heard Umar bin Khattab say, he said: One day we were sitting in the presence of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) among some people, when a man came, upon whom there were no signs of travel, and he was not a resident of the city. He passed through the people and sat down in front of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), just as one of us sits during prayer. Then he placed his hands on the knees of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: “O Muhammad! What is Islam?” The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Islam is that you bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, and give zakat, and perform Hajj, and perform Umrah, and perform the ritual bath of janabah, and complete ablution, and fast in Ramadan.” He asked: “If I do this, will I become a Muslim?” The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Yes.” He said: “You have spoken the truth.” Then he narrated the rest of the hadith. At the end of this hadith, it is mentioned: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Bring that man to me.” (The narrator says) We went out to look for him, but we could not find him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked: “Do you know who that man was? That was Jibreel (Gabriel), who came to you to teach you your religion, so take it.” “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, since he has been coming to me, today is the first time I had difficulty recognizing him, and I only recognized him when he had left.” The chain of this hadith is established and authentic; Imam Muslim has transmitted it with this same chain.
