Hadith 2377
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) explained regarding the statement of Allah Almighty: "And those who are not able to do so must feed a poor person as fidya." This refers to one poor person. The statement of Allah Almighty is: "But whoever does good voluntarily..." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: That is, whoever feeds one more poor person, then this is better. He says: This ruling is not abrogated, but this concession is given to that old man who does not have the ability to fast. And the command of feeding is for the person who knows that he will never have the ability to fast. Its chain is authentic and established.
Hadith 2378
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: (Allah Almighty has said) "For those who are unable to do so, the compensation is to feed a poor person." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Those who are unable to do so are obligated to feed a poor person, and whoever wishes to do good voluntarily, then let him feed an additional poor person. This ruling is not abrogated; rather, it is better for him. And if you fast, that is better for you. So in this matter, concession is given only to that elderly man who is unable to fast and to that sick person who knows that he will never recover. Its chain of narration is authentic.
Hadith 2379
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: (Allah Almighty says) "For those who are able to do it, a ransom is feeding a poor person." That is, feeding one poor person. (Allah Almighty says) "And whoever volunteers extra good." This means that he may feed one more poor person. (Allah Almighty says) "That is better for him. But if you fast, it is better for you." (Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, states) This concession is given only to that elderly person who does not have the strength to fast, or to that sick person who knows that he will never recover. Its chain of narration is authentic.
Hadith 2380
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "This concession is for the elderly man that he may leave fasting and feed a poor person for each day, and making up (the fast) will not be obligatory upon him." Its chain is authentic.
Hadith 2381
Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: He heard Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reciting: "And those who are not able to do it, their ransom is feeding a poor person." Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: This ruling is not abrogated. It refers to the elderly man or woman who will never be able to fast, so they should feed a poor person for each day. This narration is authentic.
Hadith 2382

Saeed bin Jubair narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to his slave woman, who was pregnant and breastfeeding a child: "You are among those who do not have the strength to fast; upon you is the obligation of fidya, not of making up (the fasts)." Its chain of narration is authentic.

Saeed bin Jubair narrates regarding Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): He stated: "A person suffering from tuberculosis, who has lost hope of recovery and is never able to fast, such a person will not fast and, in place of each day, will feed one poor person." Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse: "For those who are able to do it (with hardship), a ransom (as substitute) of feeding a poor person is required."
