بَابُ قَضَاءِ الصَّوْمِ
Chapter on making up missed fasts
Hadith 2312
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمَحَامِلِيُّ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، ثنا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلالٍ ، ثنا وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْقَاصُّ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا صَوْمَ بَعْدَ النِّصْفِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ حَتَّى رَمَضَانَ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ صَوْمٌ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَلْيَسْرُدْهُ وَلا يَقْطَعْهُ " . عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ضَعِيفُ الْحَدِيثِ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After half of Sha'ban has passed, one should not fast until Ramadan comes, except for the person upon whom (make-up or expiatory) fasts of Ramadan are obligatory; he may fast, and he should not abandon his routine." The narrator named Abdur Rahman bin Ibrahim is weak.
Hadith 2313
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ ، ثنا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلالٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ صَوْمٌ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَلْيَسْرُدْهُ وَلا يَقْطَعْهُ " .
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has a fast of Ramadan due upon him, he should continue it and complete the fast (and not leave it in between)."
Hadith 2314
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ : " يَسْرُدْهُ وَلا يُفَرِّقْهُ " . عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ضَعِيفٌ.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding making up missed fasts of Ramadan: "A person should observe them consecutively and not separate them." The narrator of this narration, Abdur Rahman bin Ibrahim, is weak.
Hadith 2315
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ فَارِسٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، قَالَ : وَفِيمَا ذَكَرَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " نزلت : فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ سورة البقرة آية 184 مُتَتَابِعَاتٍ ، فَسَقَطَتْ مُتَتَابِعَاتٌ " . هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَالَّذِي بَعْدَهُ أَيْضًا.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: This verse was revealed: "Then its counting will be in other days which will be consecutive." After that, the word "consecutive" was omitted. Its chain of narration is authentic, and the chain of narration of the following narration is also authentic.
Hadith 2316
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : " نزلت : 0 فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَر مُتَتَابِعَاتٍ 0 ، فَسَقَطَتْ مُتَتَابِعَاتٌ " . سَقَطَ لَمْ يَقُلْ غَيْرُ عُرْوَةَ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: This verse was revealed: "Then its counting will be in other days which will be consecutive." After that, the word "consecutive" was omitted. The mention of its omission has been made by Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him).
Hadith 2317
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَتْحِ الْقَلانِسِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نَاصِحٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الأَنْدَلُسِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ الْغِفَارِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَالَ : " يَقْضِيهِ تِبَاعًا ، وَإِنْ فَرَّقَهُ أَجْزَأَهُ " . الْوَاقِدِيُّ ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about making up missed fasts of Ramadan, so he (peace be upon him) said: "The fasting person will make them up consecutively, but if he separates them in between, then doing so is permissible for him." The narrator of this narration, Waqidi, is weak.
Hadith 2318
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَزْهَرَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَامِرٍ الْهَوْزَنِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ ، سُئِلَ عَنْ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَكُمْ فِي فِطْرِهِ وَهُوَ لا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَشُقَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي قَضَائِهِ ، فَأَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ ، وَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْتَ " .
Abu Amir Huzni narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). He was asked about making up missed fasts of Ramadan. He said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has not given you this concession, so do not keep these fasts, nor does He want you to be put to hardship regarding their making up. Therefore, count the number (of missed fasts) and keep them as you wish."
Hadith 2319
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَزْهَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْهَوْزَنِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ ، وَسُئِلَ عَنْ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ مُتَفَرِّقًا ، فَقَالَ : " أَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ وَصُمْ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ " .
Abu Amir Huzni reports: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he was asked about making up missed fasts of Ramadan separately, so he said: "Count the number and fast as you wish."
Hadith 2320
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ ، ثنا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فِي قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ ، " صُمْهُ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ " . وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " صُمْهُ كَمَا أَفْطَرْتَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the making up of missed fasts of Ramadan: (He says) "You may keep them as you wish." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "You will keep the fasts in the same manner as you missed them (in the month of Ramadan)."
Hadith 2321
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالا : " لا بَأْسَ بِقَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ مُتَفَرِّقًا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) stated: "There is no harm in making up missed fasts of Ramadan separately."
Hadith 2322
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ ، أَنَّ رَافِعَ بْنَ خَدِيجٍ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " أَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ ، وَصُمْ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Rafi‘ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Keep count of the days and fast as you wish."
Hadith 2323
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، " أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ كَانَ لا يَرَى بَأْسًا بِقَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ مُتَوَاتِرًا " .
Abdullah bin Abu Malikah reports: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not see any harm in making up missed fasts of Ramadan consecutively.
Hadith 2324
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ، ثنا وُهَيْبٌ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، " أَنَّهُ كَانَ لا يَرَى بَأْسًا بِقَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ مُتَقَطِّعًا " .
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): In his view, there is no harm in performing the missed fasts of Ramadan separately.
Hadith 2325
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو الأَزْهَرِ ، ثنا رَوْحٌ ، ثنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَطَاءٌ ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَأَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ " فَرِّقْهُ إِذَا أَحْصَيْتَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) say: "You can keep them separate, so complete the number."
Hadith 2326
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ يُخَامِرَ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ ، وَصُمْ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ " .
It was asked from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) about making up missed fasts of Ramadan, so he said: "Count the number and fast as you wish."
Hadith 2327
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، ثنا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ يُخَامِرَ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، قَالَ : " فَرِّقْ قَضَاءَ رَمَضَانَ ، وَأَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ " . كَذَا قَالَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ.
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You may separate the missed fasts of Ramadan, but keep count of the number." This narration is also transmitted with another chain.
Hadith 2328
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ يُخَامِرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ : " أَحْصِ الْعِدَّةَ ، وَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Keep count of the number and perform it whenever you wish (i.e., make up for it)."
Hadith 2329
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَبْدُ الْبَاقِي بْنُ قَانِعٍ الْقَاضِي ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ الْفَقِيهُ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالا : ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ فِي قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ : " إِنْ شَاءَ فَرَّقَ وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَابَعَ " . لَمْ يُسْنِدْهُ غَيْرُ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ بِشْرٍ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding making up missed fasts of Ramadan: "If a person wishes, he may keep them separately, and if he wishes, he may keep them consecutively." No one has transmitted this narration as an authentic report except Sufyan bin Bishr.
Hadith 2330
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ قَانِعٍ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، ثنا مَسْعُودُ بْنُ جُوَيْرِيَةَ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ وَاسِطِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ.
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Ubaid bin Umair, attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Hadith 2331
وَحَدَّثَنَا وَاسِطُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسِ مِثْلَهُ. عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ ضَعِيفٌ.
The same narration is also reported with another chain from Ata, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 2332
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْبَاقِي بْنُ قَانِعٍ ، ثنا بِشْرٌ ، ثنا السَّيْلَحَانِيُّ ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : " فَرِّقْ قَضَاءَ رَمَضَانَ ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ " .
Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: You can make up the missed fasts of Ramadan separately, because Allah Almighty has said: "Then the counting will be in other days."
Hadith 2333
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، قَالَ : بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ تَقْطِيعِ قَضَاءِ صِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَالَ : " ذَلِكَ إِلَيْكَ ، أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَحَدِكُمْ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَى الدِّرْهَمَ وَالدِّرْهَمَيْنِ ، أَلَمْ يَكُنْ قَضَاءُ ؟ فَاللَّهِ أَحَقَّ أَنْ يَعْفُوَ وَيَغْفِرَ " . إِسْنَادٌ حَسَنٌ إِلا أَنَّهُ مُرْسَلٌ . وَقَدْ وَصَلَهُ غَيْرُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، إِلا أَنَّهُ جَعَلَهُ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ . وَلا يُثْبَتُ مُتَّصِلا.
Muhammad bin Munkadir narrates: I have come to know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about making up missed fasts of Ramadan separately, so he said: "It is up to you. What do you think, if a person owes a debt and he pays one or two dirhams at a time, will this not be considered payment? Then Allah is more deserving to forgive and pardon." Its chain is Hasan, but this narration is Mursal. Other narrators besides Abu Bakr have transmitted it as a connected narration, but they have narrated it from Musa bin Uqbah, from Abu Zubair, from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), and this narration is also not established as connected.
Hadith 2334
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الأَزْهَرِ ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ تَقْطِيعِ صِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَحَدِكُمْ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَاهُ الدِّرْهَمَ وَالدِّرْهَمَيْنِ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَهُ ، هَلْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ قَضَاءُ دَيْنِهِ أَوْ قَاضِيهِ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، نَحْوَهُ . كَذَا قَالَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about making up missed fasts of Ramadan separately, so he said: "What do you think, if a person owes a debt and he pays a dirham or two dirhams at a time, until in this way he pays it all off, will the debt be considered paid or will he be considered as someone who is just giving a bill?" The people said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! This narration is transmitted from Abu Zubair from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 2335
قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ صَاعِدٍ ، وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ : حَدَّثَكُمْ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، وَأَبُو نَشِيطٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالُوا : ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ الْمَرْوَرُوذِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ طَارِقٍ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ " . هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies and has some fasts due upon him, his guardian should fast on his behalf." Its chain of narration is authentic; it has been transmitted in the same manner by Amr bin Harith from Ubaidullah bin Abu Ja'far.
Hadith 2336
حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الأَصْبَغِ بْنِ الْفَرَجِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies and has some fasts due upon him, his guardian (heir) should fast on his behalf."
Hadith 2337
قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ صَاعِدٍ ، وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ : حَدَّثَكُمْ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ وَارَةَ ، قَالا : نا محَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ أَعْيَنَ ، ثنا أَبِي ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا هِلالُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، ثنا مُعَافَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ.
This same narration is also transmitted from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the authority of Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) with some other chains of transmission.
Hadith 2338
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وَيَزْدَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَبَدْرُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْقَاضِي ، قَالُوا : ثنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، وَمُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، وَالْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَعَطَاءٍ ، وَمُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمٌ ، قَالَ : " لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A woman came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: My sister has passed away, and she owed some fasts of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If she had a debt, would you pay it off?" She replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then Allah is more deserving that His right be fulfilled."
Hadith 2339
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ غَيْلانَ ، ثنا أَبُو هَاشِمٍ الرِّفَاعِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ مِثْلَهُ . وَقَالَتْ : وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ ، قَالَ " فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ ".
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain, however, in it the words are: The woman said: She (the deceased) was obligated to fast for two consecutive months, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The debt owed to Allah should be fulfilled."
Hadith 2340
حَدَّثَنَا دَعْلَجُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، ثنا أَبُو عَوْفٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، قَالا : نا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، ثنا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ ، أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا ؟ قَالَ : " لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّكَ دَيْنٌ أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيَهُ عَنْهَا ؟ " ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى " . قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : قَالَ الْحَكَمُ ، وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ، وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ جَمِيعًا حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، فَقَالا : سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا ، وَقَالَ دَعْلَجٌ : فَقَالا : سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، هَذَا أَصَحُّ إِسْنَادًا مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ . وَقَالَ ابْنُ مَعْرَاءَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ . وَعَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ . وَعَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My mother has passed away and she was obligated to fast for one month. Should I fast on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your mother had a debt, would you pay it off for her?" He replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Allah's debt is more deserving to be fulfilled." This narration is also transmitted with some other chains.
Hadith 2341
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ الْمُعَيْطِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ ، ثنا يُونُسُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ عَنْبَسَةُ : وَهُوَ أَخُو يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، نَافِعًا مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مَرِضَ فَطَالَ بِهِ مَرَضُهُ ، حَتَّى مَرَّ بِهِ رَمَضَانَانِ أَوْ ثَلاثَةٌ ، فَقَالَ نَافِعٌ : كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ الْخَالِي فَلْيُطْعِمْ مَكَانَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِسْكِينًا مُدًّا مِنْ حِنْطَةٍ ، ثُمَّ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ قَضَاءٌ " .
Yunus reports: Sa'id bin Zayd (Anbasa, who narrated this, is the brother of Yunus) asked Nafi', who was the freed slave of Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), about a person who becomes ill and his illness prolongs, so much so that two Ramadans pass during his illness (and he is unable to fast). Nafi' reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say: "Whoever reaches the time of Ramadan and is unable to fast during the month of Ramadan, then for each missed fast he should feed a poor person one mudd of wheat, and then there will be no qada (making up) required from him."
Hadith 2342
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ، نا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ، نا زُهَيْرٌ ، نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْحُرِّ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ وَعَلَيْهِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ شَيْءٌ ، فَلْيُطْعِمْ مَكَانَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِسْكِينًا مَدًّا مِنْ حِنْطَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Whoever attains the time of Ramadan (and for some reason is unable to fast) and is liable to make up some part (i.e., some fasts) of Ramadan, then for each fast he should feed one needy person with one mudd of wheat."
Hadith 2343
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، ثنا مُعَاذٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُثَنَّى ، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ، ثنا يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، فِي رَجُلٍ مَرِضَ فِي رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ صَحَّ وَلَمْ يَصُمْ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ ، قَالَ : " يَصُومُ الَّذِي أَدْرَكَهُ وَيُطْعِمُ عَنِ الأَوَّلِ لِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مَدًّا مِنْ حِنْطَةٍ لِكُلِّ مِسْكِينٍ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فِي هَذَا صَامَ ، الَّذِي فَرَّطَ فِيهِ " . إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ مَوْقُوفٌ.
Ata reports: Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding a person who was ill during Ramadan and later recovered, but had not fasted in the initial part (of the month), and then got the opportunity to fast in the latter part: Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "In the part in which he is able to fast, he should fast, and for each day in the initial part in which he did not fast, he should give one sa’ of wheat to a poor person, and when he is done with that, he should fast the day for which he was negligent." Its chain is authentic and mawquf.
Hadith 2344
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ السَّمْحِ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَمْعَةَ الرَّازِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ الْمُقْرِيُّ الرَّازِيُّ ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، فِيمَنْ فَرَّطَ فِي قَضَاءِ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ ، قَالَ : " يَصُومُ هَذَا مَعَ النَّاسِ وَيَصُومُ الَّذِي فَرَّطَ فِيهِ ، وَيُطْعِمُ لِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِسْكِينًا " . إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ مَوْقُوفٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says about the person: "Whoever is negligent regarding the making up of Ramadan (fasts), until the last part of Ramadan reaches him, he will fast along with the people and then also fast for the day regarding which he was negligent, and for each day he will feed a poor person." Its chain is authentic, but this narration is mawquf (stopped at the Companion).
Hadith 2345
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ ، ثنا بَكْرُ بْنُ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ مُكْرَمٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْجَلابُ ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ وَجِيهٍ ، ثنا الْحَكَمُ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَجُلٍ أَفْطَرَ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ مِنْ مَرِضَ ، ثُمَّ صَحَّ وَلَمْ يَصُمْ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ ، قَالَ : " يَصُومُ الَّذِي أَدْرَكَهُ ، ثُمَّ يَصُومُ الشَّهْرَ الَّذِي أَفْطَرَ فِيهِ ، وَيُطْعِمُ مَكَانَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِسْكِينًا " . إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، وَابْنُ وَجِيهٍ ضَعِيفَانِ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding a person who, due to illness, is unable to fast during the month of Ramadan, then later becomes healthy but does not make up the missed fasts until the next Ramadan arrives: About such a person, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should fast the (current) Ramadan, then after that, he should fast for the days he missed, and for each day, he should feed a poor person." Both of its narrators, Ibrahim bin Nafi' and Ibn Wajeeh, are weak.
Hadith 2346
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، أنا رَقَبَةُ ، قَالَ : زَعَمَ عَطَاءٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَمْرَضُ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَلا يَصُومُ حَتَّى يَبْرَأَ أَوْ لا يَصُومُ حَتَّى يُدْرِكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ ، قَالَ : " يَصُومُ الَّذِي حَضَرَهُ وَيَصُومُ الآخَرَ ، وَيُطْعِمُ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ مِسْكِينًا " . إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Ata reports: He heard Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) saying about a person who becomes ill during the month of Ramadan and does not fast, then he recovers, or a person who misses a fast until the next Ramadan arrives, then Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "He should fast the Ramadan that has come, and he should also fast the missed days of the previous Ramadan (as qada), and for each missed day, he should feed a poor person." Its narration is authentic.
Hadith 2347
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْدَوَيْهِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، ثنا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ ، نا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ فَرَّطَ فِي صِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى يُدْرِكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ فَلْيَصُمْ هَذَا الَّذِي أَدْرَكَهُ ، ثُمَّ لِيَصُمْ مَا فَاتَهُ ، وَيُطْعِمُ مَعَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِسْكِينًا " . خَالَفَهُ مُطَرِّفٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Whoever is negligent regarding the fasts of Ramadan until the next Ramadan comes, then he will observe the fasts of the Ramadan that has come, and after that he will make up the fasts that were missed, and for each day he will feed a poor person." Mutarrif has opposed this narration in transmitting from Abu Ishaq, and this narration has already passed.
Hadith 2348
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِذَا لَمْ يَصِحَّ بَيْنَ الرَّمَضَانَيْنِ صَامَ عَنْ هَذَا ، وَأَطْعَمَ عَنِ الْمَاضِي ، وَلا قَضَاءَ عَلَيْهِ ، وَإِذَا صَحَّ وَلَمْ يَصُمْ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ ، صَامَ هَذَا وَأَطْعَمَ عَنِ الْمَاضِي ، فَإِذَا أَفْطَرَ قَضَاهُ " . هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a person is not healthy between two Ramadans, then he will fast the current Ramadan (i.e., the missed fasts), and for the previous Ramadan he will feed (the poor), and making up (the missed fasts) of the previous Ramadan will not be obligatory upon him. But if a person is healthy and does not fast, until the next Ramadan comes, then he will fast the current Ramadan, then as compensation for the previous Ramadan's fasts, he will feed the poor, and when he completes the fasts of this month, then he will make up the missed fasts of the previous Ramadan." Its chain is authentic.
Hadith 2349
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمَحَامِلِيُّ ، ثنا خَلادُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَهُوَ زِيَادُ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ حَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَجُلا جَاءَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ نَذَرَ أَنْ يَصُومَ كُلَّ يَوْمِ أَرْبِعَاءَ فَأَتَى ذَلِكَ عَلَى يَوْمِ فِطْرٍ أَوْ أَضْحًى ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِوَفَاءِ النَّذْرِ ، وَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ النَّحْرِ " . إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Ziyad bin Jubair narrates: I remember, a man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him that he had made a vow to fast every Wednesday, but this day coincided with the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, so what should he do now? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: "Allah Almighty has commanded the fulfillment of vows, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden us from fasting on the days of sacrifice." Its chain of narration is authentic.
