بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصِّيَامِ فِي السَّفَرِ
Chapter on fasting while traveling
Hadith 2291
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ بِمِصْرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَتَيْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ فِي رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ السَّفَرَ ، وَقَدْ رُحِلَتْ دَابَّتُهُ ، وَلَبِسَ ثِيَابَ السَّفَرِ ، وَقَدْ تَقَارَبَ غُرُوبُ الشَّمْسِ ، فَدَعَا بِطَعَامٍ فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَكِبَ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : سُنَّةٌ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Muhammad bin Ka'b narrates: I visited Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in the month of Ramadan. He was about to set out on a journey, his mount was ready, and he had put on his travel clothes. The sun was about to set. He called for food and ate it, then mounted his ride. I asked him: Is this the Sunnah? He replied: Yes!
Hadith 2292
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، قَالا : نا رَوْحٌ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ لِي أَبُو مُوسَى : " أَلَمْ أُنَبَّأْ أَنَّكَ إِذَا خَرَجْتَ خَرَجْتَ صَائِمًا ، وَإِذَا دَخَلْتَ دَخَلْتَ صَائِمًا ، فَإِذَا خَرَجْتَ فَاخْرُجْ مُفْطِرًا ، وَإِذَا دَخَلْتَ فَادْخُلْ مُفْطِرًا " .
Amr bin Aamir reports: I heard Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that he said: Sayyiduna Abu Musa said to me: It has been told to me that when you set out (on a journey), you depart while fasting, and when you enter the city, you are still in a state of fasting. When you set out (for a journey), then set out without fasting, and when you enter (the city upon returning from a journey), then enter without fasting.
Hadith 2293
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، وعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ الصُّورِيُّ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغَزِّيُّ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عُمْرَةِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَأَفْطَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصُمْتُ ، وَقَصَرَ ، وَأَتْمَمْتُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي أَفْطَرْتَ وَصُمْتُ ، وَقَصَرْتَ ، وَأَتْمَمْتُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَحْسَنْتِ يَا عَائِشَةُ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I set out with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for Umrah in the month of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not fast, but I was fasting. The Prophet (peace be upon him) performed shortened prayers, and I performed the full prayers. I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you! You did not fast, but I did; you performed shortened prayers, but I performed the full prayers. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Aisha! You have done well."
Hadith 2294
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ التُّبَّعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ ، فَقَصَرَ ، وَأَتْمَمْتُ الصَّلاةَ ، وَأَفْطَرَ وَصُمْتُ ، فَلَمَّا دَنَوْتُ إِلَى مَكَّةَ ، قُلْتُ : بِأَبِي أَنْتَ ، وَأُمِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَصَرْتَ وَأَتْمَمْتُ ، وَأَفْطَرْتَ وَصُمْتُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَحْسَنْتِ يَا عَائِشَةُ " ، وَمَا عَابَهُ عَلَيَّ . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : الأَوَّلُ مُتَّصِلٌ وَهُوَ إِسْنَادٌ حَسَنٌ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ عَائِشَةَ ، وَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُوَ مُرَاهِقٌ ، وَهُوَ مَعَ أَبِيهِ ، وَقَدْ سَمِعَ مِنْهَا.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Umrah, and I was with him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Qasr (shortened) prayer, and I performed the complete prayer. You did not fast, and I fasted. When I reached near Makkah, I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you! You performed Qasr prayer, I performed the complete prayer; you did not fast, I fasted. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Aisha! You have done right." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not object to me regarding this. The Sheikh says: The first narration is authentic and its chain is connected. The narrator named Abdur Rahman lived in the time of Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), he was present in her service when he was still a child near the age of puberty, and he was with his father at that time. He heard hadith from Lady Aisha.
Hadith 2295
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْوَرَّاقُ ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ وَعِنْدَهَا رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : يَا أُمَّتَاهُ مَا يُوجِبُ الْغُسْلَ ؟ قَالَتْ : " إِذَا الْتَقَتِ الْمَوَاسِي فَقَدْ وَجَبَ الْغُسْلُ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Aswad reports: I was present in the service of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and there was a person with her. He asked: O mother! What makes ghusl obligatory? Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: When the private parts meet, ghusl becomes obligatory.
Hadith 2296
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، ثنا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الصَّقْعَبِ بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَبِي يَبْعَثُ بِي إِلَى عَائِشَةَ فَأَسْأَلُهَا ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عَامُ احْتَلَمْتُ جِئْتُ إِلَيْهَا فَدَخَلْتُ ، فَقَالَتْ : " أَيْ لَكَاعِ فَعَلْتَهَا " ، وَأَلْقَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهَا الْحِجَابَ .
Abdur Rahman bin Aswad narrates: My father used to send me to the service of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and I would ask her questions. When the year came in which I experienced a wet dream, I went to her service. As I was about to enter, she said: "O inappropriate one! Have you done this act?" Then she placed a curtain between herself and me.
Hadith 2297
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، ثنا يَعْلَى بْنُ عَبِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، قَالا : نا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كُلُّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَدْ أَتَمَّ وَقَصَرَ ، وَصَامَ وَأَفْطَرَ فِي السَّفَرِ " . طَلْحَةُ ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed each of these actions; he offered the complete prayer and also offered the shortened prayer, and during travel he both observed the fast and did not observe it. The narrator of this narration, Talha, is weak.
Hadith 2298
ثنا الْمَحَامِلِيُّ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَوَابٍ ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَقْصُرُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَيُتِمُّ ، وَيُفْطِرُ وَيَصُومُ " . قَالَ : وَهَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ.
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sometimes perform shortened prayers during travel and sometimes perform the full prayers; he would sometimes break the fast and sometimes keep it. The Sheikh states: Its chain of narration is authentic.
Hadith 2299
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ ، ثنا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْمَوْصِلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يُتِمُّ الصَّلاةَ فِي السَّفَرِ وَيَقْصُرُ " . الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ.
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes perform the prayer in full during travel and sometimes shorten it. The narrator of this report, Mughira bin Ziyad, is not reliable.
Hadith 2300
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو الْفَضْلِ ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، ثنا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَيُفْطِرُ " .
Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather, reports: I have seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) observing the fast while traveling, and I have seen him not observing the fast while traveling.
Hadith 2301
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا يُونُسُ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِرْوَاحٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِرْوَاحٍ ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الأَسْلَمِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي أَجِدُ بِي قُوَّةً عَلَى الصِّيَامِ فِي السَّفَرِ ، فَهَلْ عَلَيَّ جُنَاحٌ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هِيَ رُخْصَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ ، فَمَنْ أَخَذَ بِهَا فَحَسَنٌ ، وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَصُومَ فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ " . هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَخَالَفَهُ هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ . رَوَاهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . وَيُحْتَمَلُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْقَوْلانِ صَحِيحَيْنِ . وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Amr al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I find in myself the strength to fast while traveling. Will there be any sin upon me (if I fast)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a concession from Allah Almighty; whoever accepts it does well, and whoever wishes to fast, there is no sin upon him." The chain of this narration is authentic. Hisham bin Urwah differed in its chain; he narrated it from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), from his father, that Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Amr had asked the question. It is possible that both narrations are correct; and Allah Almighty knows best.
Hadith 2302
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي زِيَادٌ النُّمَيْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " وَافَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَمَضَانَ فِي سَفَرِهِ فَصَامَ ، وَوَافَقَ رَمَضَانَ فِي سَفَرِهِ فَأَفْطَرَ " . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : كَتَبَ عَنِّي مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مُنْذُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً ، زِيَادٌ النُّمَيْرِيُّ لَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) traveled during the month of Ramadan, and he observed the fast. On another occasion, he traveled during the month of Ramadan and did not observe the fast. Abu Bakr narrates: Musa bin Harun narrated this narration from me forty years ago. The narrator of this narration, Ziyad Numairi, is not reliable.
