Hadith 2222
Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her, and a vessel was brought to him, so he drank from it. Then he passed the vessel to me. I said: I am fasting. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person observing a voluntary fast is the master of his own decision (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps the words are: the trustee of his own self). If you wish, keep the fast, and if you wish, then eat and drink."
Hadith 2223
The son of Sayyida Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: He heard Sayyida Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) saying: A drink was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he drank it, then passed it to me. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah! I am fasting. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were you making up a missed fast?" She replied: No! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then there is no harm for you." There is a difference in the wording of this narration as transmitted from the narrator named Simak.
Hadith 2224
Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A drink was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he drank from it and gave it to me to drink, so I also drank from it. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I was fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A person who is observing a voluntary fast is the trustee of his own affair (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps he said: he is the master of his own affair, meaning he is the owner of his own decision), that is, if he wishes, he may continue the fast, and if he wishes, he may break it." Shu’bah narrates: I asked: Did you hear this narration from Lady Umm Hani? He said: No! This narration has been reported by our family members and Abu Salih. The narrator named Shu’bah says: I heard from Simak, he says: I met the most virtuous among the sons of Ja’dah, and he narrated this hadith to me.
Hadith 2225
The same narration is also reported from Sayyida Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) with another chain of transmission. Shu’bah states: Simak used to say that the two sons of Sayyida Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated this hadith, and I have transmitted this hadith from the one among them who was more virtuous. Imam Abu Dawud has transmitted this narration as a connected narration from Shu’bah.
Hadith 2226
Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank a beverage and gave the remainder of the drink to Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her), so Umm Hani also drank it. Then she said: Pray for my forgiveness, for I am fasting. In the narration transmitted by the narrator named Abu Awanah, the words are: "The statement of the narrator that this narration is transmitted from Yahya bin Ja'dah is a mistake of the narrator named Walid, and this narrator is weak."
Hadith 2227
Harun narrates from his grandmother (Sayyida Umm Hani’ radiyallahu anha): I came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while I was fasting. The Prophet (peace be upon him) offered me the leftover of his drink, so I drank it. Then I said: I was fasting, and I also did not like to return what was left by you (peace be upon him). So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If it was a fast of Ramadan that you were making up, then fast one day in its place, and if it was a voluntary fast, then if you wish, make it up, and if you wish, do not make it up.” This narration has been transmitted by Hatim bin Abu Sughaira from Simak, from Abu Salih, from Sayyida Umm Hani’ radiyallahu anha.
Hadith 2228
Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person observing a voluntary fast has the choice; if he wishes, he may continue the fast, and if he wishes, he may break it."
Hadith 2229
Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person who is observing a voluntary fast is entrusted with his own decision (the narrator is in doubt: 'Ameer', meaning he is the master of his own will); if he wishes, he may continue fasting, and if he wishes, he may break it." There is a difference of opinion regarding the narration of this from Simak. Simak heard this hadith from the son of Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her); and Allah knows best.
Hadith 2230
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): He did not see any harm in breaking a voluntary fast.

Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes intend to fast in the morning. He (peace be upon him) would ask us: "Do you have anything (to eat)? Has anything (to eat) come to you?" Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We would say: Did you (peace be upon him) not intend to fast in the morning? Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Yes! But there is no harm if I break the fast, as long as it is not a vow or a Ramadan fast." The narrator named Muhammad bin Ubaidullah is Arzami, and this narrator is weak.
Hadith 2232
Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to like a certain food. One day he (peace be upon him) came and asked: “Do you have that food?” I replied: No! So he (peace be upon him) said: “Then I will fast.”

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to me and asked, "Do you have anything (to eat)?" I replied, "No!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then I will fast." Then one day he (peace be upon him) came to me, and he asked, "Do you have anything to eat?" I replied, "Yes!" So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then I will eat, even though I had intended to fast." The chain of this narration is Hasan Sahih (good and authentic).

Awn bin Abu Hujayfah narrates from his father: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi and Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with them both) brothers (in faith). The narrator states: Once, Sayyiduna Salman came to visit Sayyiduna Abu Darda and saw Lady Umm Darda in a poor state, so he asked: What has happened to you? She replied: Your brother spends the whole night in voluntary prayers, fasts during the day, and has no need for the world or his wife. Then Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, welcomed Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him), and placed food before him. Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: You should also eat. He replied: I am fasting. Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I adjure you to break your fast. Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: I will not eat until you eat. So Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) ate with him.
Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed with him at night. When night came, Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to begin voluntary prayers, but Sayyiduna Salman stopped him and said: Your body has a right over you, your Lord has a right over you, your wife has a right over you. Fast some days and leave it on other days, perform voluntary prayers and also sleep, go to your wife as well, and give each rightful person their due right. When dawn approached, Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Now get up if you wish (to perform voluntary prayers). Both of them got up, performed voluntary prayers, and then went to perform the (Fajr) prayer.
Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to inform him about what Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) had said to him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “O Abu Darda! Your body has a right over you.” He said the same thing that Sayyiduna Salman had said. These are the words of the narrator named Abu Talib.

Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sometimes the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would come to us and ask: "Do you have anything to eat?" If we replied: Yes, then he would eat it, and if we said: No, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) would say: "Then I will fast." Once he came to us, and we had been sent (Hais) as a gift. I said: O Messenger of Allah! We have been given Hais as a gift, which I have saved for you. He said: "I had intended to fast this morning." But then he ate it. The chain of this hadith is authentic.

Mother of the Believers, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and said: "I have intended to fast." Then Hais was brought to you, so you said: "I will eat from it and will fast another day in place of this fast." In these words, only Bahili has narrated this narration; no one else has narrated it, nor has anyone followed him in it, that is, in these words: "I will fast in place of it another day." Perhaps this matter became confusing for him, and Allah knows best, because other narrators have differed from Ibn Uyaynah in narrating these words.
Hadith 2238
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sometimes the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would ask for something to eat, and if nothing was available to him that day, he would fast that day. The narrator of this report, Abdullah, is not well-known.
Hadith 2239
Ibrahim bin Ubaid narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) prepared food and invited the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and some of his companions. One of those present said: "I am fasting." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Your brother has prepared food for you, your brother has made arrangements for you, so break your fast and then fast on another day." This narration is mursal.
Hadith 2240
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever eats something forgetfully during the month of Ramadan, then no making up (qada) is required of him; Allah Almighty has fed him and given him drink." The narrator of this narration is Fazari Muhammad bin Ubaidullah Arzami.
Hadith 2241
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prepared food. He invited the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions. When the food was brought, one of them withdrew. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him: "What happened to you?" He replied: I am fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "Your brother has made arrangements for you and has prepared it, and now you say: I am fasting. Eat it, and fast another day in place of this fast."
