Hadith 2213
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى بْنِ أَبِي حَامِدٍ ، ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ الْمِصْرِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ أَبُو عَبَّادٍ ، ثنا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ لَمْ يُبَيِّتِ الصِّيَامَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ فَلا صِيَامَ لَهُ " . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، وَكُلُّهُمْ ثِقَاتٌ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not make the intention to fast before the true dawn, his fast is not valid." In narrating this tradition from Mufaddal, the narrator named Abdullah bin Abbad is unique, however, all its narrators are trustworthy.
Hadith 2214
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ إِمْلاءً ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا صِيَامَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَفْرِضْهُ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fast of that person is not valid who does not make it obligatory upon himself before the true dawn."
Hadith 2215
وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْقَاضِي ، ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، وَقَالَ : " لِمَنْ لَمْ يَفْرِضْهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ " . وَقَالَ أَيْضًا : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، خَالَفَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، رَوَيَاهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ.
This statement is also narrated with another chain of transmission: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not make it obligatory upon himself during the night." This narration is also transmitted with other chains of transmission.
Hadith 2216
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ لَمْ يَجْمَعِ الصِّيَامَ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ فَلا صِيَامَ لَهُ " . رَفَعَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَهُوَ مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ الرُّفَعَاءِ ، وَاخْتُلِفَ عَلَى الزُّهْرِيِّ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ . فَرَوَاهُ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ مِنْ قَوْلِهَا . وَتَابَعَهُ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ ،وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . وَقَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، وَابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ . وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ . وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . وَغَيْرُ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ يَرْوِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ . وَاخْتُلِفَ عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ . وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . وَقَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَيْضًا ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَوْلَهُ . وَتَابَعَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نَمِرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ : أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، وَحَفْصَةَ قَالا ذَلِكَ . وَرَوَاهُ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَاخْتُلِفَ عَنْهُ.
Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fast of the one who does not make it obligatory before true dawn is not valid." Some narrators have transmitted this narration as a marfu' (attributed to the Prophet), some have transmitted it as the statement of Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), some have transmitted it as the statement of Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), while some narrators have transmitted it from Salim, as the statement of Abdullah bin Umar and Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with them). The narrators of this narration have differed regarding its transmission from Zuhri.
Hadith 2217
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " لا صِيَامَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَجْمَعِ الصِّيَامَ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ " .
Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: "Whoever does not make the intention to fast before the true dawn, his fast is not valid."
Hadith 2218
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ الصَّفَّارُ ، ثنا الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِلالٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ سَعْدٍ ، تَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ أَجْمَعَ الصَّوْمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلْيَصُمْ ، وَمَنْ أَصْبَحَ وَلَمْ يُجْمِعْهُ فَلا يَصُمْ " .
Sayyida Maymunah bint Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever makes the intention to fast at night, let him fast; and whoever reaches the morning without having made the intention, let him not fast.”
Hadith 2219
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْخَلِيلِ ، ثنا الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ اللَّخْمِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، تَقُولُ : " أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَائِمًا صُبْحَ ثَلاثِينَ يَوْمًا ، فَرَأَى هِلالَ شَوَّالٍ نَهَارًا فَلَمْ يُفْطِرْ حَتَّى أَمْسَى " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Qais narrates: I heard the noble wife of the Prophet, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), saying: Once, on the thirtieth day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) began the morning in a state of fasting. During the day, he saw the crescent of Shawwal, but he did not break his fast in the evening.
Hadith 2220
قَالَ : قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، ثنا مَعْمَرٌ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : رَأَى هِلالَ شَوَّالٍ نَهَارًا ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " لا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلالَ مِنْ حَيْثُ يُرَى " .
Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): Once he saw the crescent of Shawwal during the day, so Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "It is not lawful for you to break your fast until you see the crescent of the first (of Shawwal) at the time when it is usually seen (i.e., at night)."
Hadith 2221
قَالَ : وَثنا الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ ، عَنْ هِلالِ شَوَّالٍ إِذَا رُؤِيَ بَاكِرًا ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنْ رُؤِيَ هِلالُ شَوَّالٍ بَعْدَ أَنْ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ إِلَى الْعَصْرِ ، أَوْ إِلَى أَنْ تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ فَهُوَ مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الَّتِي تَجِيءُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : وَهَذَا مُجْمَعٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Mu’adh bin Muhammad reports: I asked Zuhri about the sighting of the Shawwal moon, if it is seen in the morning, so he said: I heard Sa’id bin al-Musayyib say: “If the Shawwal moon rises after true dawn until ‘Asr (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps the words are: until Maghrib), then the moon will be counted for the coming night.” Imam Abu ‘Abdullah says: There is consensus on this matter.
