Hadith 2182
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person hears the call to prayer (adhan) and a vessel is in his hand, he should not put it down until he has fulfilled his need from it." Imam Abu Dawood states: The chain of this narration has been transmitted in the same manner by the narrator Ruh bin ‘Ubadah as it has been narrated by ‘Abdul A‘la.
Hadith 2183
Abdur Rahman bin A’ish, who is a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), states: “There are two types of dawn. One is that which spreads vertically in the sky; this does not prevent a person from eating suhoor, and it is not permissible to perform the (Fajr) prayer at this time. But when it spreads horizontally, then eating (suhoor) becomes forbidden and at that time you may perform the morning prayer.” This narration is authentic.
Hadith 2184
Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman narrates: I have come to know that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "There are two types of dawn. One is like the tail of a wolf; it does not make anything lawful or unlawful. However, the one that spreads horizontally, with it the prayer becomes lawful and eating suhoor becomes unlawful." This narration is mursal.
Hadith 2185
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two types of Fajr. One in which it is not permissible to perform the (Fajr) prayer, and eating (the pre-dawn meal) is lawful; and one Fajr in which eating (the pre-dawn meal) is not lawful, and performing (the Fajr prayer) is permissible." This narration has been transmitted by Zubairi as a marfu' narration. Firyabi and other hadith scholars have transmitted it as a mawquf narration, while the students of Ibn Jurayj have transmitted it from him as a mawquf narration.
Hadith 2186
Salim bin Abu Ubaid narrates: I was under the tutelage of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). One night, he performed prayer for as long as Allah willed, then said: Has true dawn appeared? Salim narrates: I went outside and came back to inform him: There is whiteness in the sky going upwards (in a vertical direction). So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) performed voluntary prayers for as long as Allah willed, then said: Go and see, has true dawn appeared? I went again and returned to reply that redness has spread across the sky in a horizontal direction. Then he said: Yes! Now the time has come, bring me my pre-dawn meal.
Hadith 2187
The same narration is transmitted with another chain, however, in it the words are: "I said: In the direction of the width there is light and it is red, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Now bring me something to drink." The narrator states: In one narration, the words are: One day Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Stand at the door (between me and Fajr) and when (Fajr occurs), inform me. This narration is authentic.
Hadith 2188
Abdullah bin Nu’man narrates: Once, during the last part of the night in the month of Ramadan, Sayyiduna Qais bin Talq (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me. At that time, due to the fear of dawn, the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) had been stopped. He asked me for some curry. I said: O uncle! If there is still some part of the night left, I will provide you with food and drink. He said: Do you have it? Then he came inside, so I presented before him (thareer) meat and nabidh. He ate and drank them, and compelled me as well, so I also ate and drank, though I feared that dawn had arrived. Then Sayyiduna Qais bin Talq narrated this from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): “Continue eating and drinking (in suhoor), and do not be deceived by the light that spreads lengthwise. Continue eating and drinking until the redness spreads widthwise before you.” The narrator indicated this with his hand. The narrator Qais bin Talq is not reliable.
Hadith 2189
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) stated during a sermon: "Let not Bilal's adhan prevent you from taking suhoor, nor should the light spreading lengthwise on the horizon prevent you; as long as it spreads widthwise (you may eat suhoor)." This narration is authentic.
Hadith 2190
Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not Bilal's adhan mislead you, nor this whiteness." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this regarding the light that spreads lengthwise at dawn, and said: "You may eat (suhoor) until it spreads widthwise."
