Hadith 2006
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ يَعِيشَ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : مَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ ، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، وَالْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا نَقَمَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلا أَنَّهُ كَانَ فَقِيرًا ، فَأَغْنَاهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ، وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا وَقَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ ، وَأَعْتُدَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَأَمَّا الْعَبَّاسُ فَهِيَ عَلَيَّ وَمِثْلُهَا مَعَهَا هِيَ لَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the payment of zakat. It was then reported to him: Ibn Jameel, Khalid bin Walid, and Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib have refused to pay zakat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fault of Jameel is that he was poor, and Allah and His Messenger made him rich. As for Khalid, you have wronged him, because he has dedicated all his armor and equipment in the way of Allah. As for Abbas, the payment is my responsibility, and I will pay for him as well as an equal amount in addition."
Hadith 2007
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّنْدَلِيُّ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُمَرَ سَاعِيًا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ فَمَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَالْعَبَّاسُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا يَنْقِمُ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلا أَنْ يَكُونَ فَقِيرًا فَأَغْنَاهُ اللَّهُ ، وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا وَقَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ وَأَعْتَادَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَأَمَّا الْعَبَّاسُ فَعَمُّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَهِيَ عَلَيَّ وَمِثَالُهَا مَعَهَا " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَا شَعَرْتَ أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ أَوْ صِنْوُ الأَبِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to collect zakat. Ibn Jameel, Khalid bin Walid, and Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to pay zakat. (When the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was informed about this), he said: "Ibn Jameel did this because he was poor before, and Allah Almighty has now made him prosperous. As for Khalid, you have wronged him, because he has already dedicated his armors and equipment in the way of Allah. As for Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), he is the uncle of Allah’s Messenger, and his payment will be my responsibility, and along with it, there will be an equal additional payment." Then he said: "Do you not know, a man’s uncle is in the place of his father."
Hadith 2008
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، ثنا أَبُو رَجَاءٍ الْمُسَيَّبُ بْنُ الأَسْوَدِ ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ حُجَيَّةَ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، " أَنَّ عَبَّاسًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ قَبْلَ مَحِلِّهَا ، فَرَخَّصَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Can he pay the zakat of his wealth before its due time arrives?" So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted him to do so.
Hadith 2009
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بِهَذَا ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّا قَدْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ الْعَبَّاسِ صَدَقَةَ الْعَامِ الأَوَّلِ " . خَالَفَهُ إِسْرَائِيلُ ، فَقَالَ : عَنْ حُجْرٍ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ.
With another chain of narration, it is reported: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We had collected the zakat of this year from Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) in the previous year itself."
Hadith 2010
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ السَّلُولِيُّ ، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ حُجْرٍ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعُمَرَ : " إِنَّا قَدْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ الْعَبَّاسِ زَكَاةَ الْعَامِ عَامِ الأَوَّلِ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "We had already collected its zakat from Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) last year."
Hadith 2011
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، ثنا وَلِيدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَا عُمَرُ ، أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ ؟ إِنَّا كُنَّا احْتَجْنَا إِلَى مَالٍ فَتَعَجَّلْنَا مِنَ الْعَبَّاسِ صَدَقَةَ مَالِهِ لِسَنَتَيْنِ " . اخْتَلَفُوا عَنِ الْحَكَمِ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ ، وَالصَّحِيحُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ مُرْسَلٌ.
Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Do you know that a man's uncle takes the place of his father? At that time, we were in need of some wealth, so we collected the zakat of Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) two years in advance." There is a difference of opinion regarding the narrator named Hakam in the chain of this narration; the correct view is that this narration is transmitted as a mursal narration from the narrator named Hasan bin Muslim.
Hadith 2012
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ الْخَالِقِ ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نَائِلَةَ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، ثنا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُمَرَ سَاعِيًا ، قَالَ : فَأَتَى الْعَبَّاسَ يَطْلُبُ صَدَقَةَ مَالِهِ ، قَالَ : فَأَغْلَظَ لَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ قَدْ أَسْلَفْنَا زَكَاةَ مَالِهِ الْعَامَ وَالْعَامَ الْمُقْبِلَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to collect zakat. He came to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and demanded the zakat of his wealth from him. The narrator states: Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) dealt harshly with him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about this. The narrator states: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) has already given us the zakat for this year and the coming year."
Hadith 2013
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمَطِيرِيُّ ، قَالا : نا أَبُو خُرَاسَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ السَّكَنِ ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، ثنا مِنْدَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، وَقَالَ الْمَطِيرِيُّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ عُمَرَ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ فَرَجَعَ وَهُوَ يَشْكُو الْعَبَّاسَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ مَنَعَنِي صَدَقَتَهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا عُمَرُ ، أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ ؟ إِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ أَسْلَفْنَا صَدَقَةَ عَامَيْنِ فِي عَامِ " . كَذَا قَالَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to collect zakat. When he returned, he complained about Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: He did not pay his zakat to me. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Do you not know that a man's uncle is in the place of his father? Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had already paid two years' zakat together in advance." The narrator has transmitted the name of another narrator as Ubaydullah bin Umar, but what he meant was that this narration is transmitted from Muhammad bin Ubaydullah; and Allah knows best.
Hadith 2014
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ عُمَرَ سَاعِيًا ، فَكَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْعَبَّاسِ شَيْءٌ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ ؟ إِنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ أَسْلَفْنَا صَدَقَةَ الْعَامِ عَامِ الأَوَّلِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to collect zakat, and during this, there was some dispute with Sayyiduna ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do you not know that a man’s uncle is in the place of his father? Sayyiduna ‘Abbas has already given us the zakat of this year in advance last year.”
Hadith 2015
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، ثنا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ بْنُ يَعْلَى ، ثنا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَإِنَّهَا تَشُدُّ مِنَ الْجَائِعِ مَا تَشُدُّ مِنَ الشَّبْعَانِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves from Hell, even if it be with a piece of a date, for it serves as a barrier for the hungry just as it does for the one who is satiated."
Hadith 2016
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ فِي الْمَالِ حَقًّا سِوَى الزَّكَاةِ " ، ثُمَّ تَلا هَذِهِ الآيَةَ : لَيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ سورة البقرة آية 177 ، الآيَةَ .
Sayyida Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is a right in wealth other than zakat." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Righteousness is not that you turn your faces towards the east or the west." This verse is until its end.
Hadith 2017
ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي مُزَاحِمٍ أَبُو نَصْرٍ ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ.
This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 2018
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرِو بْنِ حِمَاسٍ ، أَوْ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرِو بْنِ حِمَاسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَبِيعُ الأُدْمَ وَالْجِعَابَ ، فَمَرَّ بِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَقَالَ لِي : " أَدِّ صَدَقَةَ مَالِكَ " ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ فِي الأُدُمِ ، قَالَ : " قَوِّمْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَخْرِجْ صَدَقَتَهُ " .
Abu Amr bin Hamaas narrates from his father: I used to sell oil and quivers. Once, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by me and said: "Pay the zakat on your goods." I said: "O Commander of the Faithful! It is in oil." He said: "Estimate its value, then pay its zakat."
