Nafi' reports: Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) had the wealth of an orphan in his possession. He would sometimes take a loan from it, and at times he would become its guarantor. And when he became the guardian of the orphan's wealth, he would also pay its zakat.
Hadith 1977

Ubaid bin Umair narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Take care of the wealth of orphans, do not let zakat consume it."

Nafi' reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to pay zakat from the wealth of the orphan; he would take the obligatory amount from it and then give it forward as mudarabah (profit-sharing investment).
Hadith 1979
Mujahid narrates from Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) granted some land to his servant Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). He was unable to take care of it, and he passed away. Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sold that land for one hundred and eighty thousand dinars. He appointed Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) as the custodian of that amount. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pay its zakat every year, until the children of Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) grew up, and then they found that wealth to be little. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: “Have you calculated the zakat for it?” They replied: “Yes!” Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Calculate its zakat.” When they calculated it, they found it to be complete.
Hadith 1980
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) paid the zakat on the wealth of the children of Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator states: When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) handed over that wealth to those people, they found the amount to be less. They said: “This wealth seems less to us.” Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Do you think that I would have any wealth with me and not pay its zakat?”
Hadith 1981

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Zakat is not obligatory on the wealth of a minor; zakat becomes obligatory when prayer also becomes obligatory upon him (i.e., when he reaches puberty)." The narrator of this narration, Ibn Lahi'ah, has not been considered reliable.

Amr bin Shu'aib narrates from his father, from his grandfather: A woman from Yemen came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with her daughter, and in her hand were two bracelets made of gold. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "Have you paid their zakat?" She replied: "No!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Would you like that Allah makes you wear two bracelets of fire?" The narrator states: She took them off and said: "O Messenger of Allah! These are for Allah and His Messenger."
