When the children of Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) took possession of that wealth, they counted their wealth and found it to be less. They came to Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about this. Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: “Did you calculate its zakat?” They replied: “Yes!” The narrator states: When they calculated its zakat, they found it to be complete. Then Sayyiduna ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “You thought that I would have some wealth with me and I would not pay its zakat.”
