بَابُ حَثْيِ التُّرَابِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ
Chapter on throwing earth on the deceased
Hadith 1836
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، قَالا : نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ ، ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعُمَرِيُّ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ دُفِنَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ ، صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا ، وَحَثَى عَلَى قَبْرِهِ بِيَدِهِ ثَلاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنَ التُّرَابِ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ " .
Abdullah bin Aamir narrates from his father: I remember well about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when he had Uthman bin Maz'oon (may Allah be pleased with him) buried (before that), he (peace be upon him) offered his funeral prayer and said takbeer over him four times. (Afterwards, after the burial) the Prophet (peace be upon him) took soil in both his hands three times and placed it on his grave. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was standing at the head side of the grave.
Hadith 1837
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُوحٍ ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، ثنا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى عُمَرُ عَلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : لأُصَلِّيَنَّ عَلَيْهَا مثل آخِرِ صَلاةٍ صَلاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مِثْلِهَا ، فَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعًا " .
Masruq narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) led the funeral prayer of one of the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard him saying: "I will lead the funeral prayer of this lady in the manner that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer the last time." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said takbeer four times.
Hadith 1838
ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ ، وَالْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، قَالا : نا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ إِلا فِي الاسْتِسْقَاءِ ، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not raise both hands during supplication, except in the prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa). In that, he would raise both hands so high that the whiteness of his armpits would become visible.
Hadith 1839
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو شَيْبَةَ ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلالٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي مَيِّتِكُمْ غُسْلٌ إِذَا غَسَّلْتُمُوهُ ، وَإِنَّ مَيِّتَكُمْ لَيْسَ بِنَجَسٍ حَسْبُكُمْ أَنْ تَغْسِلُوا أَيْدِيَكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you bathe a deceased person, it is not obligatory upon you to perform ghusl (full ritual bath), because your deceased is not impure. It is sufficient for you to wash your hands."
