بَابُ وَضْعِ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى وَرَفْعِ الْأَيْدِي عِنْدَ التَّكْبِيرِ
Chapter on placing the right hand over the left and raising the hands at takbir
Hadith 1830
ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْقَارِئُ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ سَجَّادَةُ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى الأَسْلَمِيُّ ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى يَدِهِ الْيُسْرَى " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a funeral prayer, and he (peace be upon him) placed his right blessed hand over his left blessed hand.
Hadith 1831
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ الْعَطَّارُ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْوَرَّاقُ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى الْجِنَازَةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فِي أَوَّلِ تَكْبِيرَةٍ ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the funeral prayer for someone, he would raise both hands in the first takbeer, then after that he would place his right blessed hand over his left blessed hand.
Hadith 1832
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ جَبَلَةَ ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ ، عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ السَّكَنِ ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، ثنا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى الْجِنَازَةِ فِي أَوَّلِ تَكْبِيرَةٍ ثُمَّ لا يَعُودُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise both hands in the first takbeer of the funeral prayer, then after that, he would not raise his hands while saying the takbeers in the funeral prayer.
Hadith 1833
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمْدَوَيْهِ ، ثنا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، " أَنَّ امْرَأَةً نَصْرَانِيَّةً مَاتَتْ وَفِي بَطْنِهَا وَلَدٌ مُسْلِمٌ ، فَأَمَرَ عُمَرُ أَنْ تُدْفَنَ مَعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مِنْ أَجْلِ وَلَدِهَا " .
Amr narrates: A Christian woman passed away, who had in her womb a (Muslim's) child, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that this woman be buried in the Muslims' graveyard because of the child.
Hadith 1834
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَامِدٍ ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ، ثنا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلْمَانَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ فَكَبَّرَ خَمْسًا ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قُلْنَا لَهُ : وُهِمْتَ أَمْ عَمْدًا ؟ قَالَ : بَلْ عَمْدًا ، إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّيهَا " .
Abu Salman narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) led the funeral prayer for a person, and he said the takbeer five times. When he finished with salam, we asked him, "Did you do this by mistake or intentionally?" He replied, "I did it intentionally, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform it in this manner."
Hadith 1835
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْحَافِظُ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ ثَابِتُ بْنُ قَيْسِ بْنِ شَمَّاسٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ أُمَّهُ تُوُفِّيَتْ وَهِيَ نَصْرَانِيَّةٌ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَحْضُرَهَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ارْكَبْ دَابَّتَكَ وَسِرْ أَمَامَهَا ، فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا كُنْتَ أَمَامَهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ مَعَهَا " . أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ ضَعِيفٌ.
Abdullah bin Ka'b narrates from his father: Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He informed him that his mother had passed away, who was a Christian, and he wished to participate in his mother's last rites. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mount your ride and walk ahead of the funeral; if you are walking ahead of it, you will not be counted as being with it." (Imam Daraqutni, may Allah have mercy on him, states) This narration is not established; one of its narrators, Ma'shar, is weak.
