Hadith 1786
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نَمِرٍ الْيَحْصِبِيُّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ الزُّهْرِيَّ ، فَقَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلا فَنَادَى : " إِنَّ الصَّلاةَ جَامِعَةٌ " . قَالَ لَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ : هَذِهِ سُنَّةٌ تَفَرَّدَ بِهَا أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَلَمْ يَرْوِهِ إِلا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نَمِرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ النِّدَاءُ بِصَلاةِ الْكُسُوفِ . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : تَابَعَهُ الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once there was a solar eclipse, and the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered a person, who then announced that the prayer would be performed in congregation. The narrator named Ibn Abi Dawood says: This is a Sunnah, and the people of Madinah Munawwarah are unique in transmitting it. The narrator named Abdur Rahman has reported from Zuhri: An announcement should be made for the eclipse prayer.
Hadith 1787
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو ، قَالَ : ثنا الْوَلِيدُ ، نا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً.
This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 1788
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثِ ، ثنا أَبُو الْحَارِثِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَقَامَ فَكَبَّرَ وَصَفَّ النَّاسَ وَرَاءَهُ ، فَاقْتَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِرَاءَةً طَوِيلَةً ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ " ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَاقْتَرَأَ قِرَاءَةً طَوِيلَةً هِيَ أَدْنَى مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ الأُولَى ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلا وَهُوَ أَدْنَى مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ، وَقَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ " ، ثُمَّ فَعَلَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُخْرَى مثل ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَكْمَلَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ ، وَانْجَلَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: During the blessed life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was once a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace be upon him) went to the mosque. He stood up and pronounced the Takbir. The people formed rows behind him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) recited a long recitation. Then, saying the Takbir, he went into bowing (ruku‘) and performed a long bowing. Then he raised his head from bowing and recited “Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd.” Then he stood and began reciting again, but this recitation was shorter than the first. After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said the Takbir and performed a long bowing, but it was shorter than the previous bowing. After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited “Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd.” Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) did the same in the second rak‘ah, and in these two rak‘ahs he performed bowing four times and prostration four times. Before the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, the sun had become bright again.
Hadith 1789
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ ، ثنا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ كَثِيرُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ ، يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ ، مثل حَدِيثِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَنَّهُ صَلَّى فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prayer of the solar eclipse. This narration is transmitted in the same manner as it is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): he performed two bowings (ruku) in each unit (rak‘ah).
Hadith 1790
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أبِي ، ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَرَأَ قِرَاءَةً طَوِيلَةً يَجْهَرُ بِهَا " ، يَعْنِي فِي صَلاةِ الْكُسُوفِ . قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ : هَذِهِ سُنَّةٌ تَفَرَّدَ بِهَا أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ الْجَهْرُ.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited at length (in the prayer of the solar eclipse), and he recited aloud. The narrator says: What is meant by this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so in the prayer of the solar eclipse. The narrator named Ibn Abi Dawood states: The people of Madinah are unique in transmitting the narration about reciting aloud.
Hadith 1791
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ النِّيلِيُّ ، ثنا ثَابِتُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ الزَّاهِدُ ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي أَرْبَعِ سَجَدَاتٍ يَقْرَأُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed eight bowings (ruku) in four units (rak‘ah) during the prayer for lunar and solar eclipses, and he recited (Qur’an) in each unit.
Hadith 1792
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الزُّهْرِيُّ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ خَالُ النُّفَيْلِيِّ ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ وَقَرَأَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُولَى بِ الْعَنْكَبُوتِ ، أَوِ الرُّومِ ، وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِ يَاسِينَ " .
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four bowings (ruku) and four prostrations (sajdah) in two units (rak‘ah) of the solar and lunar eclipse prayer. In the first unit, he recited Surah Al-Ankabut and Surah Ar-Rum, while in the second unit, he recited Surah Ya-Sin.
Hadith 1793
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الثَّلْجِ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْقَزَّازُ ، ثنا بَكَّارُ بْنُ يُونُسَ أَبُو يُونُسَ الرَّامِي ، ثنا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ " . الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : " وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ إِذَا تَجَلَّى لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ ، فَإِذَا كَسَفَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا فَصَلُّوا وَادْعُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sun and the moon are both signs." In this narration, it is also mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "When Allah manifests Himself to anything from His creation, it humbles itself before Him with humility and submission. So when either of them is eclipsed, perform prayer and supplicate."
Hadith 1794
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ شَاذَانَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ الْبُنَانِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ الطَّاحِيُّ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا تَجَلَّى لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ " . تَابَعَهُ نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ.
Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah manifests His glory to anything among His creation, it humbles itself before His presence." This narration is also transmitted through another chain.
Hadith 1795
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الإِصْطَخْرِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ يَعِيشَ ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ لَمَهْدِيِّنَا آيَتَيْنِ لَمْ تَكُونَا مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ ، يَنْخَسِفُ الْقَمَرُ لأَوَّلِ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، وَتَنْكَسِفُ الشَّمْسُ فِي النِّصْفِ مِنْهُ ، وَلَمْ تَكُونَا مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ " .
Muhammad bin Ali says: Our Mahdi has two signs which have never occurred since the creation of the heavens and the earth: a lunar eclipse on the first night of Ramadan and a solar eclipse on the fifteenth. Since Allah created the heavens and the earth, these two eclipses have not occurred on these dates until now.
Hadith 1796
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالا : نا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لا يَنْخَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلا لِحَيَاتِهِ ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The sun and the moon are two signs of Allah Almighty; they do not eclipse because of anyone's death or birth. They are signs of Allah Almighty. When you see them (in the state of eclipse), then perform (the eclipse) prayer."
