بَابُ صِفَةِ صَلَاةِ الْخَوْفِ وَأَقْسَامِهَا
Chapter on the description of the fear prayer and its types
Hadith 1770
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وَالْقَاضِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالا : نا أَبُو عُتْبَةَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ الْغَنَوِيُّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ فِي صَلاةِ الْخَوْفِ سَهْوٌ " . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ السَّرِيُّ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no forgetfulness (sahw) in the prayer of fear."
Hadith 1771
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصَفًّى ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثنا الزُّبَيْدِيُّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " قَامَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَكَبَّرَ وَكَبَّرُوا ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ وَرَكَعَ مَعَهُ أُنَاسٌ مِنْهُمْ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ وَسَجَدُوا ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ وَتَأَخَّرَ الَّذِينَ سَجَدُوا مَعَهُ وَحَرَسُوا إِخْوَانَهُمْ ، وَجَاءَتِ الطَّائِفَةُ الأُخْرَى فَرَكَعُوا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ كُلُّهُمْ فِي الصَّلاةِ يُكَبِّرُونَ وَلَكِنْ يَحْرُسُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and the people stood behind him following his lead. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir, so the people also said the takbir. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into ruku‘, so some of them went into ruku‘ with him. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into sajdah, so those people also went into sajdah. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for the second rak‘ah, so those people who had performed sajdah with him stepped back and began to guard their brothers. Then another group came and performed one rak‘ah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). All the people were saying the takbir in prayer, but at the same time, they were also guarding one another.
Hadith 1772
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالا : نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ نَحْوَهُ .
The same narration is transmitted from Zuhri with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 1773
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ، ثنا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثنا الزُّبَيْدِيُّ ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ نَحْوَهُ.
This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 1774
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي حَزْمٍ الْقُطَعِيُّ ، وَالْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، قَالُوا : ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثنا وُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِصَلاةِ الْخَوْفِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقُمْنَا خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ ، وَكَبَّرَ وَرَكَعَ ، وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا الصَّفَّانِ كِلاهُمَا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، ثُمَّ خَرَّ سَاجِدًا وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَثَبَتَ الآخَرُونَ قِيَامًا يَحْرُسُونَ إِخْوَانَهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ سُجُودِهِ وَقَامَ خَرَّ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ سُجُودًا فَسَجَدُوا سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَامُوا فَتَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الْمُقَدَّمُ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَتَقَدَّمَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ فَرَكَعَ وَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا ، وَسَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ ، وَثَبَتَ الآخَرُونَ قِيَامًا يَحْرُسُونَ إِخْوَانَهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا قَعَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَّ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ سُجُودًا فَسَجَدُوا ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to perform the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and we stood in two rows behind him following his lead. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir and went into ruku‘, and all of us, both rows, went into ruku‘ as well. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed head and went into prostration (sajdah), so the row that was closest to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into prostration with him, while the others remained standing in their places, guarding their brothers. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prostration, the row behind went into prostration; they performed two prostrations, then they stood up. Then the row that was near the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved back, and the row that was behind came forward. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into ruku‘, so all of them went into ruku‘ as well. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into prostration, so the row that was closest to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into prostration, and the others remained standing, guarding their brothers. Then when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat, the row behind went into prostration; they performed the prostration, then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave salam (ended the prayer).
Hadith 1775
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، قَالا : نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أنا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ بِإِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ رَكْعَةً وَالطَّائِفَةُ الأُخْرَى مُوَاجِهَةَ الْعَدُوِّ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا فَقَامُوا فِي مَقَامِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ مُقْبِلِينَ عَلَى الْعَدُوِّ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى هَؤُلاءِ رَكْعَةً وَهَؤُلاءِ رَكْعَةً " . تَابَعَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، وَالنُّعْمَانُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ ، وَغَيْرُهُمْ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led one group in one rak’ah of the prayer of fear, while the other group stood facing the enemy. Then those people moved back and took the place of their companions, facing the enemy, and the other group came forward. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in one rak’ah. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the salam. Then one group completed one rak’ah, and the other group also completed one rak’ah.
Hadith 1776
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا قَبِيصَةُ ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي بَعْضِ أَيَّامِهِ فَقَامَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ مَعَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْعَدُوِّ ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ وَجَاءَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ ، ثُمَّ قَضَتِ الطَّائِفَتَانِ رَكْعَةً رَكْعَةً " .
Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: During a battle, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led the prayer of fear. One group stood behind him in congregation, while the other group stood between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the enemy. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led this group in one rak'ah, then they moved to the place of the other group, and the other group came to their place. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) led them in one rak'ah as well, then he concluded the prayer with salam for all of them. Afterwards, both groups completed one rak'ah each on their own.
Hadith 1777
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، قَالا : نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، ثنا الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعُسْفَانَ ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَهُمْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَصَلَّى بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ ، فَقَالُوا : قَدْ كَانُوا عَلَى حَالٍ لَوْ أَصَبْنَا غِرَّتَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ قَالُوا : تَأْتِي عَلَيْهِمُ الآنَ صَلاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ ، قَالَ : فَنَزَلَ جَبْرَائِيلُ بِهَذِهِ الآيَةِ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ : وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلاةَ سورة النساء آية 102 ، قَالَ : فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَأَمَرَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخَذُوا السِّلاحَ فَصَفَّنَا خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ رَكَعَ وَرَكَعْنَا جَمِيعًا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَرَفَعْنَا جَمِيعًا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ سَجَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّفِّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ ، قَالَ : وَالآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا سَجَدُوا وَقَامُوا جَلَسَ الآخَرُونَ فَسَجَدُوا فِي مَكَانِهِمْ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ وَجَاءَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَرَكَعُوا جَمِيعًا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَرَفَعُوا جَمِيعًا ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَالآخَرُونَ قِيَامٌ يَحْرُسُونَهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ الآخَرُونَ سَجَدُوا ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : فَصَلاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً بِعُسْفَانَ وَمَرَّةً فِي أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyash Zurqi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at the place of Usfan. The polytheists came before us, their leader was Khalid bin Walid. The polytheists came between us and the Qiblah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer. The polytheists said: "They are now in such a state that if we attack them in their moment of heedlessness (it would be appropriate), the time for their prayer has come, which is more beloved to them than their children and their own lives." Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) came with this verse between Zuhr and Asr: "And when you are among them, then lead them in prayer." When the time for prayer came, by the order of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the people took up their weapons. We formed two rows behind the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) went into ruku‘, so we all went into ruku‘. Then when he raised his blessed head, we all raised our heads. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the row closest to him went into prostration, while the people of the other row remained standing and guarded them. When the first row had completed their prostration and stood up, the people of the rear row went into prostration. Then the people of the rear row came forward to the place of the front row, and the front row moved to the place of the rear row. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) went into ruku‘, so all the people went into ruku‘ with him. Then when he raised his head, all the people raised their heads. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the row closest to him went into prostration, while the other row remained standing and guarded them. When those people sat down, the people of the other row went into prostration. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) ended the prayer with salam along with all the people. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace be upon him) led the prayer in this manner twice, once at Usfan and once in the area of Banu Sulaym.
Hadith 1778
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالا : نا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ صَحِيحٌ.
This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.
Hadith 1779
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمُودٍ السَّرَّاجُ ، قَالا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي مَذْعُورٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ مُحَاصِرًا بَنِي مُحَارِبٍ بِنَخْلٍ ثُمَّ نُودِيَ فِي النَّاسِ أَنَّ الصَّلاةَ جَامِعَةٌ ، فَجَعَلَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَائِفَتَيْنِ طَائِفَةٌ مُقْبِلَةٌ عَلَى الْعَدُوِّ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ وَصَلَّى بِطَائِفَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَانْصَرَفُوا فَكَانُوا مَكَانَ إِخْوَانِهِمْ ، وَجَاءَتِ الطَّائِفَةُ الأُخْرَى فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَكَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَلِكُلِّ طَائِفَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laid siege to Banu Muharib at the place of Nakhl. Then it was announced among the people that the prayer was about to be established. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided the Muslims into two groups. One group faced the enemy; they were conversing among themselves. The other group, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led in two rak‘ahs and then concluded the prayer with salam. Those people got up and went to take the place of their companions. Then the second group came, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also led them in two rak‘ahs. In this way, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four rak‘ahs, and each group performed two rak‘ahs.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمَالِكِيُّ ، قَالا : نا بُنْدَارٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، قَالا : نا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، ثنا مَالِكٌ . ح وَثنا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، نا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَوْقٍ ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَلادٍ ، ثنا مَعْنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، نا الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، قَالا : نا الشَّافِعِيُّ ، ثنا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُومَانَ ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ خَوَّاتٍ ، عَمَّنْ صَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ ذَاتِ الرِّقَاعِ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ ، أَنَّ طَائِفَةً صَفَّتْ مَعَهُ وَطَائِفَةً تُجَاهَ الْعَدُوِّ ، فَصَلَّى بِالَّتِي مَعَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ثَبَتَ قَائِمًا وَأَتَمُّوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا وَصَفُّوا تُجَاهَ الْعَدُوِّ ، وَجَاءَتِ الطَّائِفَةُ الأُخْرَى فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ الرَّكْعَةَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ ثُمَّ ثَبَتَ جَالِسًا وَأَتَمُّوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ بِهِمْ " . وَقَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ : حَتَّى أَتَمُّوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ بِهِمْ ، قَالَ ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ : بِهَذَا كَانَ يَأْخُذُ مَالِكٌ ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ : قَالَ لِي مَالِكٌ : أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ هَذَا ثُمَّ رَجَعَ ، قَالَ : يَكُونُ قَضَاؤُهُمْ بَعْدَ السَّلامِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ . صَحِيحٌ.
Salih bin Khawwat narrates from that Companion who offered the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the Battle of Dhat al-Riqa‘ (that Companion narrates): A group formed a row with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and another group remained facing the enemy. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led the group with him in one rak‘ah, then those people stood up and completed the rest of their prayer by themselves. Then they left and formed a row facing the enemy, then the second group came. The Prophet (peace be upon him) led them in the remaining rak‘ah of his prayer, then he remained seated and this group completed their prayer, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said the salam with all of them. Ibn Mahdi says: Imam Malik has given a fatwa according to this narration. Ibn Wahb says: Imam Malik first said to me, “I like this narration the most.” But then he retracted from this position and said, “What I like best is that those people should complete their prayer after the salam.”
Hadith 1781
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، عَنِ الأَشْعَثِ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَصَلَّى بِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، فَتَأَخَّرُوا وَجَاءَ الآخَرُونَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، فَكَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَلِلْمُسْلِمِينَ رَكْعَتَانِ رَكْعَتَانِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led his companions in the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf). He led some of the companions in two rak‘ahs and then said salam; those people moved to the rear. Then other people came, and he led them in two rak‘ahs and then said salam. In this way, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed four rak‘ahs, and the Muslims performed two rak‘ahs each.
Hadith 1782
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، ثنا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِالأَخَرِينَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فِي صَلاةِ الْخَوْفِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in two rak‘ahs of the prayer of fear and then said the salam. Then he led the other group in two rak‘ahs and said the salam.
Hadith 1783
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّجَّارُ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ الْقَيْسِيُّ ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِالْقَوْمِ صَلاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ ثَلاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَجَاءَ الآخَرُونَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ ثَلاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ ، فَكَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِتُّ رَكَعَاتٍ وَلِلْقَوْمِ ثَلاثٌ ثَلاثٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in three rak‘ahs of Maghrib prayer, then he finished the prayer. Then other people came, and he led them also in three rak‘ahs. In this way, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed six rak‘ahs, and the people performed three rak‘ahs each.
Hadith 1784
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، ثنا خُصَيْفٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَامُوا صَفَّيْنِ ، صَفٌّ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصَفٌّ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَةً ، وَجَاءَ الآخَرُونَ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَهُمْ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ هَؤُلاءِ الْعَدُوَّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، فَقَامَ هَؤُلاءِ فَصَلُّوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ ثُمَّ سَلَّمُوا ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبُوا فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ أُولَئِكَ مُسْتَقْبِلِي الْعَدُوَّ فَرَجَعَ أُولَئِكَ إِلَى مَقَامِ هَؤُلاءِ فَصَلُّوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the prayer of fear. The people formed two rows: one row stood following the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the other stood facing the enemy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led these people in one rak'ah, then the other group came and took their place, and these people went to face the enemy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in one rak'ah and then said the salam. Then these people stood up and completed their prayer and said the salam. Then these people went and stood facing the enemy in place of the first group, and the first group returned to their place, performed one rak'ah themselves, and said the salam.
