بَابُ صِفَةِ مَنْ تَجُوزُ الصَّلَاةُ مَعَهُ وَالصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْهِ
Chapter on the description of one with whom prayer is valid and for whom the funeral prayer is offered
Hadith 1759
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَامِدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الصَّالِحِ السَّمَّانِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " سَيَلِيكُمْ بَعْدِي وُلاةٌ ، فَيَلِيكُمُ الْبَرُّ بِبِرِّهِ ، وَالْفَاجِرُ بِفُجُورِهِ ، فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُمْ وَأَطِيعُوا فِيمَا وَافَقَ الْحَقَّ ، وَصَلُّوا وَرَاءَهُمْ فَإِنْ أَحْسَنُوا فَلَكُمْ وَلَهُمْ ، وَإِنْ أَسَاءُوا فَلَكُمْ وَعَلَيْهِمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me, some rulers will be imposed over you; a righteous person will be your ruler along with his righteousness, and a sinner will be your ruler along with his sins. You must obey and follow them in that which is in accordance with the truth, and continue to perform prayers behind them. If they do good, you will receive your reward and they will receive theirs, and if they do evil, you will receive your reward and they will bear their sin."
Hadith 1760
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الْوَرَّاقُ ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ أَبُو بَدْرٍ ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ ، عَنْ مُكْرَمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ ، عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ مُنِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ ، قَالَ : أَرْبَعُ خِصَالٍ سَمِعْتُهُنَّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكُمْ بِهِنَّ فَالْيَوْمَ أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِهِنَّ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لا تُكَفِّرُوا أَحَدًا مِنْ أَهْلِ قِبْلَتِي بِذَنْبٍ وَإِنْ عَمِلُوا الْكَبَائِرَ ، وَصَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ إِمَامٍ ، وَجَاهِدُوا ، أَوْ قَالَ : قَاتِلُوا مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ ، وَالرَّابِعَةُ : لا تَقُولُوا فِي أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ ، وَلا فِي عُمَرَ ، وَلا فِي عُثْمَانَ ، وَلا فِي عَلِيٍّ إِلا خَيْرًا ، قُولُوا تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُمْ مَا كَسَبْتُمْ " . وَلا يُثْبَتُ إِسْنَادُهُ ، مَنْ بَيْنَ عَبَّادٍ ، وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ ضُعَفَاءُ.
Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There are four qualities which I heard from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but I have not mentioned them to you before; today I will tell you about them. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Do not declare anyone from the people of the Qiblah to be an unbeliever because of a sin, even if he commits a major sin. And perform prayer behind every Imam, and perform jihad with every leader (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) or fight with them. And the fourth thing is: speak only good about Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, and say: That was a community that has passed away; for them is what they earned, and for you is what you earn of good deeds.”
Hadith 1761
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، نا أَبُو عُمَرَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ بِحَلَبَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى مَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَصَلُّوا خَلْفَ مَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the funeral prayer for every person who professes 'La ilaha illallah', and perform prayer behind every person who professes 'La ilaha illallah'."
Hadith 1762
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، وَابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، قَالا : نا الْعَلاءُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى مَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَصَلُّوا وَرَاءَ مَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the funeral prayer for every person who professes La ilaha illallah, and pray behind every person who professes La ilaha illallah."
Hadith 1763
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، وَآخَرُونَ ، قَالُوا : ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، ثنا سَالِمُ بْنُ الأَفْطَسِ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً.
The same narration is also transmitted with another chain from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, from the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadith 1764
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ النُّعْمَانِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَنَانٍ ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ ، ثنا الأَشْعَثُ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الصَّلاةُ وَاجِبَةٌ عَلَيْكُمْ مَعَ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ بَرًّا كَانَ أَوْ فَاجِرًا وَإِنْ كَانَ عَمِلَ بِالْكَبَائِرِ ، وَالْجِهَادُ وَاجِبٌ عَلَيْكُمْ مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ بَرًّا كَانَ أَوْ فَاجِرًا وَإِنْ عَمِلَ بِالْكَبَائِرِ ، وَالصَّلاةُ وَاجِبَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يَمُوتُ بَرًّا كَانَ أَوْ فَاجِرًا وَإِنْ عَمِلَ بِالْكَبَائِرِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon you to perform prayer behind every Muslim, whether he is righteous or sinful, even if he commits major sins. And it is obligatory upon you to perform jihad with every leader, whether he is righteous or sinful, even if he commits major sins. And it is obligatory upon you to perform the funeral prayer for every Muslim who passes away, whether he is righteous or sinful, even if he commits major sins."
Hadith 1765
ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَنَانٍ ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ ، ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْقِنَّسْرِينِيُّ ، ثنا فُرَاتُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُلْوَانَ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مِنْ أَصْلِ الدِّينِ الصَّلاةُ خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ ، وَالْجِهَادُ مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ وَلَكَ أَجْرُكَ ، وَالصَّلاةُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقِبْلَةِ " . وَلَيْسَ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ يُثْبَتُ.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is among the fundamental teachings of the religion that prayer will be performed behind every righteous and sinful person, and jihad will be undertaken with every leader. You will receive your reward, and the funeral prayer will be performed for every deceased person among the people of the Qiblah."
Hadith 1766
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الشَّافِعِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ مَاهَانَ الدَّبَّاغُ ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْبِرَكِيُّ ، ثنا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ نَبْهَانٍ ، ثنا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ الْيَقْظَانِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الأَسْقَعِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تُكَفِّرُوا أَهْلَ قِبْلَتِكُمْ وَإِنْ عَمِلُوا الْكَبَائِرَ ، وَصَلُّوا مَعَ كُلِّ إِمَامٍ ، وَجَاهِدُوا مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ ، وَصَلُّوا عَلَى كُلِّ مَيِّتٍ " . أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَجْهُولٌ .
Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not declare the people of the Qiblah as disbelievers, even if they commit major sins, and perform prayer behind every imam, and participate in jihad with every leader, and offer the funeral prayer for every deceased.” The narrator of this narration, Abu Sa’id, is unknown.
Hadith 1767
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سَابِقٍ أَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ ، ثنا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ نَبْهَانٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الشَّامِيِّ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الأَسْقَعِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى كُلِّ مَيِّتٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقِبْلَةِ ".
Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates similarly from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), however, in it are these words: “Offer the funeral prayer for every deceased person among the people of the Qiblah.”
Hadith 1768
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَوْقٍ الْهِزَّانِيُّ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " صَلُّوا خَلْفَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ ، وَصَلُّوا عَلَى كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ ، وَجَاهِدُوا مَعَ كُلِّ بَرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ " . مَكْحُولٌ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَمَنْ دُونَهُ ثِقَاتٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform prayer behind every righteous and sinful person, perform the funeral prayer for every righteous and sinful person, and participate in jihad alongside every righteous and sinful person." The narrator named Mak'hool did not hear hadith from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and apart from this, the narrators are trustworthy.
Hadith 1769
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَسَدٍ الْهَرَوِيُّ ، ثنا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، ثنا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ صُبْحٍ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، وَالأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " ثَلاثٌ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ : الصَّفُّ خَلْفَ كُلِّ إِمَامٍ لَكَ صَلاتُكَ وَعَلَيْهِ إِثْمُهُ ، وَالْجِهَادُ مَعَ كُلِّ أَمِيرٍ لَكَ جِهَادُكَ وَعَلَيْهِ شَرُّهُ ، وَالصَّلاةُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَيِّتٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ التَّوْحِيدِ وَإِنْ كَانَ قَاتِلَ نَفْسِهِ " . عُمَرُ بْنُ صُبْحٍ مَتْرُوكٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Three things are Sunnah: forming rows behind every imam (for congregational prayer), you will receive the reward of your prayer, and its sin will be upon him; and participating in jihad with every leader, you will receive the reward of your jihad and its evil will be upon him; and performing the funeral prayer for every deceased among the people of Tawheed, even if he committed suicide.” The narrator of this narration, Umar bin Subh, is abandoned.
