بَابٌ: فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ إِذَا جَاءَ الرَّجُلُ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ
Chapter: Regarding the two rak'ahs if a man comes while the imam is delivering the sermon
Hadith 1610
ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، إِمْلاءً ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ الْمُقَوِّمُ ، ثنا أَبُو بَحْرٍ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ يَعْنِي أَبَا سُفْيَانَ ، أنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَجَلَسَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ ، فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِوَجْهِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ يَتَجَوَّزُ فِيهِمَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) came while the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on Friday. He sat down before performing the prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to perform two rak‘ahs. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his blessed face towards the people and said: "When any person comes for the Friday prayer and the Imam is delivering the sermon, he should perform two rak‘ahs and make them brief."
Hadith 1611
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فَجَلَسَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لِيَجْلِسْ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon to the people. He sat down, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any person comes on the day of Jumu'ah and the Imam is delivering the sermon, he should perform two short rak'ahs and then sit down."
Hadith 1612
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجُوَيْهِ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغَزِّيُّ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ السُّلَمِيُّ ، وَعَبَّاسٌ التَّرْقُفِيُّ ، قَالُوا : نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ السُّلَمِيُّ ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالا : نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أنا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْكٍ الْغَطَفَانِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ وَلْيَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported this: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon, then he should perform two short rak‘ahs and perform them quickly."
Hadith 1613
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ ، نا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ أَوْ قَدْ خَرَجَ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying during the sermon: "When any one of you comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps the words are: the Imam has arrived), then that person should perform two rak‘ahs."
Hadith 1614
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، قَالا : نا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، ثنا عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " . قُلْتُ لِعَمْرٍو : أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ جَابِرٍ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a person comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon at that time, then that person should perform two rak‘ahs." The narrator states: I asked my teacher Amr whether he had heard this hadith from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him)? So he replied: "Yes!"
Hadith 1615
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، ثنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ الْهَرَوِيُّ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said while delivering the sermon: "When a person comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon at that time, then that person should perform two rak‘ahs."
Hadith 1616
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَشِّرٍ ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said while delivering the sermon: "When a person comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon at that time, then that person should perform two rak‘ahs."
Hadith 1617
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُوحٍ الْجُنْدِيسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الصَّوَّافُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلانَ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَزِيعٍ ، عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ، وَسُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا ، يَقُولُ : بَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِذْ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ ، فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَقَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on Friday, when a man entered. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to perform two rak‘ahs, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any person comes and the Imam is delivering the sermon, then that person should perform two rak‘ahs."
Hadith 1618
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَارِسِيُّ ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الصُّورِيُّ ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، ثنا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قَيْسٍ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُمْ فَارْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَأَمْسَكَ عَنِ الْخُطْبَةِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ " . أَسْنَدَهُ هَذَا الشَّيْخُ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، عَنِ مُعْتَمِرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَوَهِمَ فِيهِ ، وَالصَّوَابُ عَنِ مُعْتَمِرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مُرْسَلٌ ، كَذَا رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ، وَغَيْرُهُ ، عَنِ مُعْتَمِرٍ.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the Qais tribe entered (the mosque) while the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You stand up and perform two rak‘ahs." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) paused his sermon until he finished the prayer. This narration is reported in the same way from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), however, the narrator made an error in it. The correct version is: it is transmitted as a mursal narration from the father of Mu'tamir. However, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal has narrated it in this manner.
Hadith 1619
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، نا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا فُلانُ ، أَصَلَّيْتَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : لا ، قَالَ : " فَصَلِّ " ، ثُمَّ انْتَظَرَهُ حَتَّى صَلَّى .
Mu'tamir narrates from his father: A man came (into the mosque) while the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! Have you performed the prayer?" He replied: "No!" So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then perform the prayer," and the Prophet (peace be upon him) waited for him until he had performed the prayer.
Hadith 1620
ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الآدَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، ثنا أبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : دَخَلَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ارْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَلا تَعُدْ لِمِثْلِ هَذَا " ، قَالَ : فَرَكَعَهُمَا ثُمَّ جَلَسَ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Jumu'ah, Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) entered (the mosque), so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: "Perform two rak'ahs and do not do this again (i.e., sit without praying)." The narrator states: So he performed those two rak'ahs and then sat down.
Hadith 1621
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْوَكِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَمْسَكَ عَنِ الْخُطْبَةِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ رَكْعَتَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى خُطْبَتِهِ " . هَذَا مُرْسَلٌ لا تَقُومُ بِهِ الْحُجَّةُ ، وَأَبُو مَعْشَرٍ اسْمُهُ نَجِيحٌ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ.
Muhammad bin Qais narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed him to perform two rak'ahs, the Prophet (peace be upon him) paused his sermon until he finished performing the two rak'ahs, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) resumed his sermon. This narration is mursal and cannot be used as evidence. The narrator of this narration is Abu Mu'tamir, whose name is Najeeh, and this narrator is weak.
Hadith 1622
ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ أَمْسَكَ عَنِ الْخُطْبَةِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ " . هَذَا أَيْضًا مُرْسَلٌ ، وَأَبُو مَعْشَرٍ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَاسْمُهُ نَجِيحٌ.
Muhammad bin Qais narrates: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed him to perform this prayer, he paused his sermon until that person finished the prayer. This narration is also mursal, and the narrator named Abu Mu'tamir is weak; his name is Najeeh.
